Wonderful small hotel/guesthouse on a remote beach in Nosy Be. Transport from the airport involved both car and boat. We were a group of three, with my spouse, myself, and my 20 year old daughter. Our room and the grounds were absolutely beautiful, with traditional thatch roofs on many of the structures, and both covered and uncovered outdoor common spaces to have meals and relax by the ocean. There was a local band of lemurs. There was a beautiful stretch of pebbly beach with the huge tide shifts common in the area and amazing sunrise views. We ate all meals at the hotel, which featured local ingredients and seafood. The young chef checked in on diet preferences. We arranged all activities directly with Jean Michel, including a boat transport and guided walk in the Lokobe Nature Reserve (where we saw several different types of lemurs, chameleons and frogs, and a boa!), and a boat trip to Nosy Tanikely to snorkel a beautiful, living reef and walk up to the lighthouse on the top of the island.
We really liked that Doany Beach was off the beaten path, but for practical stuff like ATMs and markets, Helleville is a boat ride away, so requires planning. Jean-Michel stopped in Helleville on our way to Doany Beach to take care of practical needs on our way in.

Bel emplacement avec chambre confortable vue sur mer. Personnel attentif et à l’écoute.
Rapport qualité prix exagéré comparé aux autres hôtels.
Établissement se disant éco lodge mais avec notamment des pommes et des clémentines importées alors que l’île regorge de fruits frais…
Et nous avons pu être mal à l’aise par l’attitude du gérant de temps en temps.

The family & staff were very helpful and welcoming. They were attentive hosts and very sweetly arranged to make a cake for our son’s birthday.
The location is wonderfully remote and it was great to be able to explore Lokobe Park on foot. We had a fantastic guide and cool face towels were waiting for us on our arrival back which were much needed! They made a great Gin&Tonic with lime too.
It is peaceful and we admire what the owners are trying to achieve with their eco-lodge. It was fun to see the lemurs right by the property.
Whilst appreciating this is an eco-lodge and not high luxury there were some things we felt let it down, especially given that it wasn’t a cheap stay. In the bathroom in the family room you needed to put your hand in the cistern to flush the toilet & there was no water in the mornings in that bathroom. We used a bucket and got sea water when our son was sick so we could clean up. (The bathroom in the other bungalow was better). There was a rat in the family bedroom on 2 nights.
We also felt 9€ each was expensive for breakfast (one coffee, some fruit, a pancake).
