The room I stayed in was very large, tastefully decorated with a balance of old and modern Japanese style. The onsen has different kinds of water including milky, alkaline bath.
Getting there from Yamagata Station has only two options: car (taxi) or bus. If you go by bus, after you get off at the last stop, you have to walk up the hill to the end of the street.

The food was very good 2 of the 3 nights in terms of quantity.
It was a lot of stairs up and down to the 2nd floor. Not their fault, it was an old building, I should have mentioned to them that I need a 1st floor room because of my recent total knee replacement surgery

Traditional Ryoken. excellent location. Room was large, Breakfast was an amazon experience, breakfast staff were fabulous
Front staff not very helpful at all. If you don't want to assist Westerners then don't sell us the rooms. Did not share any information about anything, not even the Winter Festival! . Very disappointing as it was super expensive. Way too many stairs and little help with getting baggage to our room. We are over 60 and it's 46 stairs up!
