The staff were really friendly, the free flowing beer every night was a cool touch and the people in my dorm were really friendly.
I had to ask to have the bin that was overflowing with toilet roll emptied and more toilet roll. The bird making noise constantly from 5am was really annoying and disturbed my sleep and my bed had bugs around the mattress.

I really liked the facilities and the nightly events organized for all the hostel guests. The bathroom was very clean and always well-stocked with plenty of napkins, and the staff were incredibly kind and friendly. During my 4-day, 3-night stay, I truly had a great time.
The keypad numbers on the automatic door were not very responsive and often required multiple attempts to work.

Proper reputable social hostel in a cool town.
Where do I start? It’s at least a 30 minute walk from the main road in Luang Prabang, so location is just bad. While the rooms are clean, they are “clean” for party hostel standards. Mad Monkey suffers from its party hostel reputation and doesn’t enforce its own rules. While all dorms have quiet hours after midnight, that simply is not happening. People come back to the dorms at all hours of the night slamming the door, lockers, and speaking loudly (this might be a criticism of the people rather than the establishment, but point still stands). The staff are a bit too relaxed, lots of the volunteers are just drinking and hanging out with the guests (no problem with that, but should probably still be working a little bit). So, lots to not like, but still one of the only hostels you should stay in in this town.
