Having stayed at many hotels and resorts over the years, I can confidently say that Petra Mare in the Lerapetra area of Crete is one of those hidden gems that truly deserves recognition. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, every member of staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Maria and the entire reception team, both day and night, were exceptional - warm, friendly, professional, responsive and genuinely eager to help. Their outstanding attitude was reflected throughout the resort by the restaurant and bar teams, the entertainment and animation staff, the housekeeping team, and the concierge who so kindly assisted with our luggage. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble. The catering team deserves special recognition. The quality, variety and creativity of the food were simply outstanding. They transformed what could have been ordinary meat, sea food and vegetarian dishes into something exciting and delicious, ensuring that every breakfast, lunch and dinner offered new flavours and enjoyable surprises. It is undoubtedly one of the finest culinary experiences we have had at an all-inclusive resort. The resort itself is in a fantastic location with plenty to see and do nearby, making it an excellent base for exploring this beautiful part of Crete. Our holiday seemed to fly by far too quickly, which is always the sign of a wonderful stay. We are already looking at booking our next visit, and I have no doubt we will return. A huge thank you to everyone at Petra Mare for making our holiday so special. We cannot recommend it highly enough.

The journey from Heraklion Airport seemed a distance as we just couldn't wait to get settled, start our holiday and on to the beach. However, the views along the way are rather beautiful and made us realise how much we still don't know about Crete despite having been there several times on holiday previously. Like other families we met there - all agree its worth the journey!

The hotel has a major focus on kids entertainment. There us everything what 2-6 yo child wants. Food, water park, mini disco, animation, beach. Besides this food is amazing and super versatile

The pool with the wather slides are exciting for kids between 3 and 8…. Older kids might get a bit bored.

Our room was not properly cleaned. Bed sheets only got changed after I have removed them myself and left them on the floor - together with the dirty towels. Also, the beach towels are only exchanged every 3 days which is unhygienic and not common practice in other properties. The hotel has a capacity for 800 people and beginning of July this number was not maxed out. Still, it was so insanely crowded in the restaurant and also the pool area where it was hard to keep your kids in sight. Also worth to point out that there is no lifeguard neither at the pool area nor at the beach. Especially when it gets that crowded, this could be a potential risk. It’s pretty difficult to get in and out of the sea.
