Hotell Fängelset Västervik

We were very pleasantly surprised by how well the hotel manages to preserve the atmosphere and character of a historic prison while offering very comfortable accommodation. It makes for a truly unique and memorable stay. Our room was spacious and bright, with comfortable beds, a seating area and a sink. The shared areas include a kitchenette, games room, reading room and several cosy places to relax. Breakfast was very good, and free parking was available right by the hotel. The town centre is within easy walking distance (less than 10 minutes). The staff were friendly and helpful, although reception is not staffed 24 hours a day.

Our only complaint was the cleanliness of the shared kitchenette. Unfortunately, we found some plates that had not been washed properly and had developed mould. This was clearly due to previous guests not cleaning up after themselves, but it would still be a good idea for the hotel to check the shared kitchenware from time to time.

Perfect location, right next to the train/bus station. Super friendly staff. Very good ratio price/quality/location. Good choice for breakfast. Practicality-we'be been to fancier hotels that lacked hooks for towels or had dumb fancy showers leaking all over. Here there was no luxery but everything we needed like space to hang wet towels, space to put your own cosmetics etc. The room was tiny, but we were there just for one night and we were happy with it. Its a plus that it has a common kitchen and a darts room and board games-for the next trip with friends it's the perfect place

Would have liked a system to could open the window (though there is a ventilation thingy on it that u can regulate). The bed linens were clean, nothing to complain about- but maybe the pillows/matrasses need some fresh air/sun. Don't imagine anything groose, its i guess just being in between thick walls all the time. Some extra shelves if people are staying more than one night would be good, like the room have a lot of vertical place-i guess this applies to the old cells room, they have bigger rooms than the one we stayed
