YHA Hawkshead

Location divine. Lovely building and really lovely grounds. Good was very nice too. Had dinner and breakfast, both were enjoyable. Staff on reception (Zoe, possibly?) was very welcoming and gave lots of suggestions/info. Great staff member! Loved scoping out the other accommodation options; cabins, bell tents, teepees. Make great future options

Bearing in mind that it’s an affordable hostel, there was nothing negative to report.

It was quite a nice location. The Village is only 20 minutes walk away, and that’s a nice place. Some of the staff were nice. It looks like a good place to camp.

Big price rises for the bank holiday weekend. Nice. Check in staff weren’t exactly friendly. It was a bank holiday so they were maybe stressed. I didn’t like short open hours at reception, you can only order tea and coffees at reception. Only a small lounge area. Dining area is like school dinners environment. Not bad for the price but it has a bit of a dingy feel to upstairs, nothing against the cleaners. It’s more a building issue as it’s very old.

Lovely large house with comfortable furnishings. Stayed in a pod, basic but dry and warm. Used the YHA facilities kitchen, refrectory, bathroom and they were very good. Even has a bar!. Very good value.

The hut was clean and beds were comfortable. The heater in the hut was a big plus. The location was nice and the overall setting was peaceful.

Just needs a bit of tlc in some communal areas. Hut floor also needed sweeping and moping. There was only one functioning ladies toilet and the overall condition of the toilet was a bit tired. Needed more regular checks as was getting dirty quickly as being shared by all those camping/in outside lodging.
