Very good breakfast spread and helpful staff.
The room looked very worn down; wash basin stainless steel tap was badly stained; toilet seat had stained which I cleaned myself after scrubbing with a lot of strength; mattress was too soft, as if old.

The grand Drive to the hotel and the lobby / entrance area are quite impressive. However these are only first impressions. The carpets on the ground-floor (to the rooms) must have been there for a long time, being grubby from use and spillages of coffee and tea over the years.
The room was clean and tidy. In the washing / shower room the shower, wash-basin tap and associated plumbing worked, but were clearly showing signs of age.
The beds was large and comfortable, and we had a good night's sleep.
A swim in the hotel's outdoor pool was very pleasant. However, also here, the paving stones around the pool's edge were showing signs of age - many of them were loose. They should be re-set and the filling around them re-pointed to make them safe again.
In conclusion, The Umrao is all right if all you need is a good night's sleep and the close proximity Delhi's main airport.
