It is what it is: the hotel closest to the start of the famous Ruta del Cares hiking trail. So if you want to enjoy a leisurely breakfast and avoid the hassle of driving from one of the nearby villages and then having to look for a parking place in the morning before starting the hike, this is it.
The rooms are very basic, as can be expected in a mountain accommodation, with beds that are old, with wool blankets. But the bathroom is clean, the shower is excellent, and in the cafe downstairs you can have a 3 course menu for only 18 euros, wine included. Personnel (Paco, Juan) is friendly. This place offers value for relatively little money, and we were very grateful to arrive back after the fantastic hike and being able to jump straight into the shower.
Breakfast was a bit sparse. And the beds need new mattresses.

We chose this hotel because of wanting to take the funicular up to Bulnes and hike the Ruta del Cares the next day. The location couldn't have been better and it was a tremendous bonus to have a place to park which is an issue in Poncebas. The morning of our hike we could walk right out the door and start hiking, leaving our car as we were staying a second night. The breakfast was simple but adequate and well worth the reasonable charge before hiking. There was some noise from the street and restaurant below, but it wasn't a problem and quieted down before bedtime. The staff was friendly.

We loved our second night in this Hôtel and were impressed at the friendly welcome we received on our return after our hike in the Cares Gorge. Dinner was simple but very tasty and we enjoyed their local red wine. Once again we enjoyed their generous breakfast on the terrace while watching hikers go by on their way to the Gorge. We felt happy to be finished our own hike!

Great location and friendly staff, both during the day and around breakfast. The older gentlemen at the bar during the evening are chatty and nice, and the woman serving breakfast had a friendly calm demeanour. The hotel is situated next to the popular Ruta del Cares, which connects to many other points of interest such as the more challenging hike: Canal de Trea. The local bus stop is within walking distance and a cable car is available to visit the highest village in the park, Sotres. Parking is readily available at the public parking lot or along the road, and guests can park at the hotel during their stay.
When returning at a later date, having just missed the last bus, we asked for help finding a taxi, but the waiter dismissively waved a list of taxies not allowing us to take a photo of the list and said we should take the next bus in half an hour, but no bus came, so we were forced to walk six kilometres to Arenas de Cabrales through the night along a dark road.
