Everything was excellent. Very friendly, helpful and they looked after our suitcases until we caught the train. Perfect position, a nice quiet room, lovely breakfast and the room was very clean and freshly painted.
The view outside our bedroom window let it down with unsightly rubbish on show to the right-hand side. It needs to be cleared away.

Location opposite main station in Caen was excellent for us as we were travelling by train. We did not expect too much as we were aware that it did not have a three or four star rating, but it was fine. Older accommodation which had been renovated. Had to take bags up stairs as no lift. The room was smallish, which was no surprise, but the two of us, with big bags managed to fit in ok. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Bathroom had good water pressure but was on smaller side.
Staff/managers were very friendly and helpful.
As budget accommodation in a convenient location to train services then La Consigne fits the bill.
If you expect 3, 4 or 5 star accommodation then this is not for you.

The room was clean but 2nd floor hard for baggage. The manager was pleasant and agreed to a late check-in - 8.30pm because the train was late. The water pressure in the shower was good.
Some guests were drunk I think and noisy and 1 man tried to come into my room - I guess he thought it was his. He didn’t apologise. Also big holes in bathroom door. Looked like it had been attacked both sides.
