Okami-san provided a warm and welcoming home to the both of us. She and her husband were wonderful company, great guides, and always helpful. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with great facilities. It was also well placed to explore the many shrines and temples of the city.

The hosts' hospitality during my stay last year was so memorable, I felt that I couldn't miss the chance to visit them again since I'm back in Kyoto again this year. Traveling on a solo trip can feel rather daunting, but the warmth and care shown by the hosts provided much comfort and assistance to my first experience of summer in Kyoto. The check-in process was smooth & welcoming. Before I was shown my room, I was provided with a complimentary yukata in the color & design of my choice for the duration of my stay, as well as a delicious drink & snack to ease the exhaustion of my commute all the way from Tokyo. I was led back to the same room as my previous stay, and it was as clean, cosy, and comfortable as I remembered. Each morning, the breakfast meals were abundant & delicious. This year, I had made a special request in advance for one of my breakfast to be made into a bento so that I may depart early in the morning to catch the Gion Matsuri parade. Okami-san went above & beyond, delivering the most exquisitely prepared breakfast provisions bag I have ever seen, stuffed full with onigiri, a carefully curated bento box, ice packs, utensils, a chilled bottle of tea, and even a frozen sports drink which became my ultimate savior in enduring the relentless summer heat throughout the day. The property was also in a prime location and within walking distance to all my travel plan destinations during my stay, be it to downtown Kyoto for the Gion Matsuri Yamaboko Junko Parade, or to commute back from the Gion district after the Mikoshi Togyo event, or just getting to and from recommended locations for good food / unique experience activities. Especially useful when bus routes are affected due to road closures from the ongoing summer festivities. Throughout my stay, I felt well cared for, the hosts were always ready to help, or even just to have a conversation with me and listen to me talk about my day.

Only that Okami-san's overwhelming generosity meant that the breakfast spread is always way too much food for my petite appetite's consumption 😆 I feel bad for the wasted food, but I will always try my best nonetheless.

The place is located in a quiet space away from the main roads, but just a 15 minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera. The room was clean. The breakfast was delicious every morning. The owner will adjust the meal based on your likes. The owners are very friendly. I highly recommend.

The bathroom is shared, but this is common for ryokan style hotels. The facility is very clean. It's just that I like having time to do my own things.

It was an interesting and unique experience. As Okami, the lovely host, emphasises, this is not a hotel. It's her house and quite rightly, she cares about it. The breakfast was truly different, substantial and very tasty.

Kamuroan gets rave reviews, but for us, we found the atmosphere too prescriptive, and our hosts just a bit too attentive.
