Villa Maria was a spectacular place to spend a few days on Lake Maggiore! We had to figure out transportation, as we were not driving, but were able to do so with help from the lovely hosts -- note, there was no taxi available at the train station in town, and you also need to get groceries, as options are limited once you reach the villa unless you have a car. There is a bus nearby, but we didn't try it. The villa is in a quiet location within walking distance (up a steep hill) from the boat stop at the nearby cliffside hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, from which you can get to all the boat locations on the lake. The schedule is limited, though, so make sure to check it and time your day accordingly! The hermitage is well worth a visit. We stayed in the turret apartment, which also has a nice-sized 2nd floor patio looking over the lake toward the mountains. The view is just gorgeous, with snow-capped peaks visible when the air is very clear, such as early morning. The apartment was very comfortable for the two of us and would be fine for a family of 3-4, if 2 people don't mind sharing the bed in the turret room, which is a small full-size bed that takes up most of the space; the loft bedroom has two twin beds. There is also a sofa bed in the living room if needed. The villa also looks over a small public beach, between it and the lake, and it is next to a local boat club, which has a restaurant with lake views that was open in early May. I had the best risotto I've ever had at that restaurant. I expect the area would be livelier at the height of the summer, but it was ideal for us in early May. The kitchen and bathroom were spotless, modern, and well-equipped. The villa's garden is very pretty, with plenty of lawn space for lounging in the lawn chairs provided. One highlight is that the villa's apartments are decorated with artwork from the owners' own collection. We loved Villa Maria!

Fantastic location just next to the lake; splendid view. Very friendly and helpful host. Lovely building, a bit quirky with a lot of character.

Car parking is a bit inconvenient, but not a big problem.

Besides the beds, everything. Antonio and Elizabeth are amazing hosts, the house is beautiful and well designed and the location right next to a small beach is perfect.

We loved everything!! We even spontaneously prolonged our stay since it was so perfect. I am sure we will come back soon, one of the best holidays we ever had. We highly recommend this place !!!

The beds in the livingroom are not comfortable and should be replaced.
