Fitzwarine House Whittington

Debbie - who runs the place - is not able to offer breakfast, but recommended the pub next door (from 0800) or the castle almost opposite (from 0900). We had an excellent breakfast at the latter - nice setting and nice people. Fitzwarine House is an old building and slightly old-fashioned, but the bed was comfortable and the shower &c all good. Room and bed-side lighting is a bit dim, though.

The room (1) had rather dim lighting, and the bed seemed very soft - softer than we're used to, anyway, but not necessarily a problem. Our room faced the road, so we had to close the window to quell the traffic noise - but then it was much better.

Ideal location for visiting different areas. Lovely hosts very friendly and accommodating. If Debbie was busy jeanette was very bubbly. Nice quirky building which we loved. Nice relaxing place to stay.

I didn't like the fact I had to leave and go home.

No breakfast offered but the Olde Boote Inn next door does a magnificent breakfast at a very reasonable price. The location is stunning. Historic building full of character. Plenty of hot water and good shower. Host very pleasant.

We love cats and have two of our own. Unfortunately the resident cat at Fitzwarine House was not trained. It was disappointing to find it perched on the dining tables and the smell of cat wee whilst in bed was quite off putting. Whilst the building was absolutely charming and full of delightful olde worlds quirks we found the steep, narrow stairs difficult . It was a hands and knees job for me sometimes! The crooked old beams made us laugh. Anything we placed on the dressing table slid off. The floor was so creaky and uneven we felt like we'd gone for a cruise on an ancient schooner. Definitely not suitable for those with mobility issues!
