The Château de Cocove is located in Recques-sur-Hem, 12 mi from the Calais coast. Beautifully restored, this 18th century chateau is set in magnificent wooded park land within the proximity of the port of Calais and the Channel tunnel.

We have stayed here quite a few times now while driving between the UK and Italy. We live in northern UK so have already had a long drive so the location, within easy reach of the tunnel at Calais, is ideal for us. Parking is on the premises and there is plenty of space. The appearance of the place and its grounds, is always a welcoming sight. The rooms are good, with kettle and drinks. For us a few more walk in showers rather than showers in baths, would be good. The bar area, love it! Welcoming, warm, comfortable, not the sterile bar you sometimes find. The evening meal offers a reasonable menu and is accompanied by the odd little extras while you wait. The food itself is good, better than most places. Breakfast is brilliant, buffet help yourself with almost everything you might want, although the cheese didn’t look very appetising on this occasion. We have had petrol from a small garage nearby in the past, but this time we decided to get it from the motorway services
The single waitress for breakfast meant that coffee and refills were slow.

Staff, including wait staff for dinner, were earnest and clearly wanted to do a good job.
We were seated for dinner, received a plate of soggy hors d'oeuvres and some water, then waited 20 minutes after asking for a wine list -- and another 40 minutes actually to receive our bottle of wine. Our waiter repeatedly apologized for delays in all areas -- getting the wine list, getting the wine itself, and the delivery of food. Clearly the wait staff were trying, but there is something about the overall production that seems to need refinement.
The room itself was clean and comfortable enough, if small. The decor seemed as though it was all ordered from Wayfair. If the hotel had been close to anything it would have been just fine. Being out in the middle of nowhere, though, it left quite a bit to be desired.
