We loved the cabins- fun to be out on our own
With view of the elephants (they stay in an enclosure at night and this is visible from most of the cabins).
Food was great, especially breakfast with fresh fruit, yoghurt, muffins and hot choices if you like.
Child-friendly options but children can eat the full adult meal (three courses) if they wish. Happy to alter things for taste (eg. No dressing on prawns).
Swimming pool small but clean and fresh towels ready for us on loungers.
Outdoor shower on veranda was amazing- can shower and look at wildlife at the same time.
Tea and coffee in rooms and a good sized fridge with UHT milk.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Walking with the elephants was one of the most incredible experiences of my life and will never be forgotten. So glad we did that.
We love that the cabins are remote from the main building but be careful if you have mobility problems as it is an uneven, gravelly hike up to them. Kids running in flip flops fell over a lot but this didn’t dampen our fun. We liked the adventure! If they weren’t where they were we wouldn’t have woken up to giraffe walking right past our veranda twice!
Other guests said game drives on the property were not up to expectations, so we would suggest just the elephant walk (which was epic) then go to Addo elephant park for a day (1.5hrs away) which was amazing.

Staff were fabulous, particularly Moffat. Elephant walk was a fantastic experience. Scenery was spectacular, especially the night skies. Food was very good.
Access road took well over an hour to drive. It’s therefore too far to self-drive to Addo and back in a day (a 4-hour round trip) and still have much time to see the animals. The chalet was quite tired looking and could do with some updating.

Barefoot is picture perfect with a friendly and helpful staff, George, Moffet, Kelyn and Kristal, who made our stay very pleasant. The food was great. The room was welcoming and after dinner there was a fire in the fireplace and warm blankets on the bed. What a luxury.
We took advantage of the two excursions, walking with elephants and the game drive. Mavusi made the game drive unforgettable and educational. Not only about the animals, but also the local culture. Dumasani, Thembani, Foster and Ignatius were wonderful amabssadors for the elephants. Unforgettable!
The drive over the two passes was challenging, but doable with a Corolla (going very slow). It was worth it when we found paradise at the end.
The mountain bikes were not operational, and you can only walk the "road".

Fantastic facilities and design. Very relaxing and very good food. Loved the hot tub on the balcony and seeing the wildlife from the veranda. We even saw giraffe’s whilst having breakfast in the main lodge.
Be aware that the location is via 25km of dirt road - we were able to do it in a saloon car but it took over an hour to do but worth the effort.

We liked everything! The communal lodge and outside balcony by the water, the view from our room, the room itself, the service from staff and the general tranquility was absolutely magical. The view is unrivalled. I have never had anything like it from a room. You can see giraffes, zebras, baboons, antelope, warthogs, eagles and more from the bed! Our stay was incredible. Thank you 🙏🏻
Nothing! Apart from the 16km dirt track you have to take to get there….but even that was well worth it.

It was an incredible stay, the staff were very welcoming I 100% recommend an unforgettable experience.

The included meals exceeded my expectations. The area is really beautiful. The elephant encounter was a highlight for us! The room was spacious and comfortable and there are many small details which combine to make for a great experience. For example, returning to the cottage after dinner and discovering a fire already lit to warm up the room, and the electric blankets switched on. It's a small thing, but shows intentional care for guests.
We weren't allowed to drive around the reserve in our private vehicle to watch wildlife. As it is a relatively small, private reserve this isn't too unusual. I can imagine the chaos if all the tourists were driving around the reserve at the same time. Also, the reserve is close to other game reserves that can accommodate day-visitors for game-viewing, so not a major issue, just something to keep in mind.

Everything. The room,food and staff

the dining room is super nice, as on the promoted pictures. the staff is skilled and helpful and made up for the design and investment deficiencies. a decent landing strip for ambitious pilots and a rich nature (little zoo with elephants, game on the fenced property). kids loved the whirlpool on the terrace, fireplace cozy during cold evenings, gas powered bathroom stove not sure if CO poisoning possible if not vented well.
- arrival during rain requires a 4x4 and driving skills of 1.5 hours off road.
- no generator, not even light bulbs with batteries, no wifi during load shedding
- food was OK, don’t expect haute cuisine from a set menu, lot of frozen food,
- pool is small and unheated, not enough sunbeds nor towels if Germans are reserving them
- generally mostly German and Swiss there(non judgmental)
- metal roof without drainage makes dripping noise all night
- expect mice and other rodents to walk in your room during night
- very simple build compared to other game lodges, no mini bar, towed wine opener (as if i need to steal it for a 350€nigh)
- warning signs to not steal the glas water bottles, no comment again. only that their rims were black from mold and no way to even drink that.
- game tours as others commented overpriced, however well done and smaller groups
- for the value for money ratio it is short of expectations and what we experienced in other game lodges

A wonderful experience, the accommodation is beautiful with a stunning view. At night and in the morning you can hear many animals. The staff is very friendly. We recommend booking the Elephant Encounters/Walk. The drive to the lodge is a bit rough but you have to put up with that if you want to stay in such a beautiful remote place.

Beautiful tent like cottages in a private game reserve with a fantastic private jacuzzi! Elephant walk is a must! Waking up and seeing elephants, giraffes and other bush animals from our terrace was amazing! The last part of the gravel road is indeed not the best but manageable, a SUV is definitely recommended but no 4x4 required!
The food unfortunately is a let down. For such an exclusive and fantastic lodge the food was way below our expectations. No open grill or something similar, only one choice which is predetermined. Also the staff seems to have problems to be flexible. At lunch time we were sitting outside on the terrace talking to other guests and were asked to come inside for lunch. As we asked if we could wait a little longer with our lunch we received rolling eyes. This is not what you expect from such an exclusive place.

The lodges exceeded my expectations, we loved the outdoor jacuzzi bath and outdoor showers and had an incredible time on the elephant walk!

Breakfast was good - staff very accommodating as we had to leave early the day of departure and they accommodated us with an early breakfast
We enjoyed the view from our room but it was exceptionally hot, which wasn't at all the fault of the lodge, but the weather, and load shedding so couldn't use the fan which made it a bit uncomfortable. We suggest an "afdak" for parking
4.0
lovely location but not much of a view, snd 25 km off road I would suggest an SUV or 4x4
Poor value for money. Other properties in the area have much better value for money, you also have to pay for extras on top of your daily rate. The food was average.
2.0
Good location close to animals, nice pool, peaceful surroundings
Poor service with almost no flexibility despite high room price (e.g, no generators despite load sheddings, no or only very bad internet, etc ), extra charges that were not discussed, misleading information regarding road to get there which almost lead to breakdown of car, overpriced safaris almost (1,5-2x higher vs. other places)

The stay was too short.

The views from the rooms were spectacular.
The gas heater in the bathroom wasn’t working as expected - only the middle element would work. If the weather is poor, make sure you have a 4x4 to get into and out of the lodge.

Staff are extremely helpful and friendly, Rooms are well equipped with everything and comfy, elephant excursion is fantastic and definitely a must
Thought there could be a very small selection of menu items that could be ordered instead of the set menu
