Green View Guest House

Friendly attentive host, fantastic location

Bed very firm and toilet was outside the bedroom so although it was private it was not en-suite.

In an excellent location overlooking the Green in Silloth, with views across to Scotland if it’s not pouring with rain, this charming Guest House is full of interesting local memorabilia matched with the enthusiastic historical knowledge of co-owner Graeme. If you’re visiting you should definitely consider having an evening meal in their onsite Stella’s Bistro, which we found to be excellent quality and value in equal measures.

Very good location on the seafront. Definitely had the owners stamp on the guest house. Mid winter had only just reopened but the owner ensured I was able to have a small choice of lovely home cooked food and a decent breakfast

Was a little cold in the room but I’d only booked that afternoon. Shower not particularly strong but this was noted in the bathroom

The communication with the host went smoothly on the check-in day, he showed a friendly attitude and flexibility by arranging dinner half an hour later to accommodate our late arrival. The dinner itself was good too, and we had a delightful evening overall, talking with another couple also staying in the guest house and with the host himself. The room also lived up to expectations.

The host snapped at us during breakfast for not moving our bikes to make more room for other guests' bikes, and kept yelling at us in front of those other guests who were visibly distressed by the host's behaviour as well. Presumably, this all followed a very subtle hint from the host asking whether it would be OK if the bikes were moved, to which we answered "yes". Looking back, it might as well be a cultural misunderstanding (we heard it as asking for permission rather than a call to action), yet I believe that doesn't warrant the aggressive behaviour that followed. Finally, when checking out, I wanted to take the bags to attach them to the bikes while my husband stayed to arrange the checkout and remaining payments, the host's remark addressed to me was: "Don't you want to pay for your stay first?". This was completely non-constructive, even insulting.
