The Town Hotel

It's right in the middle of town, roughly equidistant from both the bus and railway stations. The receptionist was polite and helpful. There was a bathroom, wardrobe, chest of drawers, comfy double bed and a television of sorts that had clearly been recently replaced judging by the hasty repaint job on the wall (though an online-only TV isn't necessarily an upgrade). Lobby was dark and quiet but well decorated. I appreciated that security beyond the door to the rooms was treated as paramount.

There were no spoons or stirrers for the tea, until I was allowed to borrow one of the former after repeated requests. I also preferred the old TVs that just switched straight on instead of needing to warm up, and went directly into linear channels instead of a home screen. The bathroom floor was on a lower level than the bedroom. There's a sign warning about this above the door as you enter but not as you exit. There was no toilet roll holder in the bathroom itself either. In the morning, a staff member knocked on my door at 11:10 asking why I hadn't checked out yet so I gathered my things and left five minutes later, even though the reservation clearly states that I should've been allowed to stay until 11:30 There's no artificial way of cooling the room either, so in the summer you either need to sweat it out or else leave the window open and deal with all the town centre noise.

Outside is very noisy, inside you can easily ear the people in the rooms next to yours.
