Putting a preorder in for breakfast as sometimes you just don't how you'll feel next day.

Nice upper room with a nice view, very peaceful setting. We really enjoyed it.

Dinner was very disappointing. Langoustines inedible. Food heavy, more like pub food. Had expected a finer dining experience. Breakfast very poor. Fruit choice very limited, one rasher of bacon, one sausage, a bit mean. Not great value for money

The hotel occupies an old building in a very small, quiet village between Inverness in the north and Oban in the south, set back a little from the main road. We booked two rooms, one on the first floor and one right under the roof. The house appears to have been partly renovated, the windows for example were new, though bathroom and furniture in our rooms were not. Rooms were in reasonable overall condition. Staff were consistently friendly and helpful throughout our stay, without exception. In summary, a friendly stay in a house that hasn't quite found its current identity, with a gap between the polished self-description online and the more modest reality we experienced.

The website still advertises bathrobes and slippers in the room, but these were not provided, which didn't match what we'd been led to expect. The hotel has clearly been through several changes of ownership and is apparently back on the market again this year, and it shows. It's not quite clear whether it sees itself as a hotel or a bed and breakfast, and in practice the standard is closer to a simple bed and breakfast rather than the more established hotel it once was. The restaurant, once known for ambitious fine dining, has an appealing menu on paper, but the food didn't live up to it. Our risotto was dry and dishes were generally under-seasoned. Breakfast is chosen the evening before with no buffet to supplement it, which felt a bit inflexible, and was fairly basic aside from a genuinely good and creative eggs Benedict.
