I appreciate Elena’s flexibility for the late check in due to our flight later in the evening (which we agreed on upfront) and experience of living in the city center in a more authentic way - among flats inhabited by the locals. I preferred this way compared to sterile hotels, I liked private bathroom and shared kitchen concept and have flatmates actually. Some appliances were fairly used but functional and the place was clean. I liked complementary spf and after sun lotion, sensitive skin shower gel. The owner puts a lot of thoughts and care into providing small things to make the stay comfortable.
What made our stay akind bitter was odd behavior of Elena. When we came on Thursday evening and were paying local tax and she was taking photo of my id, she returned it to me with a comment she couldn’t recognize me, and the photo had to be taken a really long time ago as I have to have put on SO MUCH weight. I also didn’t like when she introduced herself and turned her back to me when I wanted to introduce myself by my name too. The next day she stopped by the apartment to clean after another tenants, and when she saw me leaving for a walk, she continued with the digs about how I don’t use the door handle the right way and I’m not allowed to lock the apartment and I’m only allowed to lock my room and that’s enough. She provided a strange excuse that other tenants who have the same key as me cannot enter it when we lock the apartment. I didn’t engage and left after saying goodbye. I could really see she disliked me for some reason and was very unprofessional about that.

Elena was a friendly and welcoming host. She texted details to get from the airport to the apartment. She showed us around our apartment with a private bathroom and terrace as well as a shared sitting area and kitchen. It was clean and well equipped with a coffee machine, washing machine and a shared terrace. She told us about places to visit and how to get there. The location was good, 15 minutes walk to the centre of Old Town and quiet at night. Great local patisserie 2 minutes away for breakfast.
Stairs to the 4th floor were taxing for me, fine for my son. Palermo apparently suffers from water pressure problems. One evening after soaping myself, there was no water and none the next morning. I had to buy wet wipes and water to wash. Later that day, Elena replied to my text informing us of a water pump switch in the flat. The water pressure was fine after we turned it on. Elena did apologise for not letting us know earlier. Other than that, a great stay.
