We stayed as a family of 4 with 2 teens. Staying in a machiya was a nice experience to get a feel for old Kyoto.
The house was spacious, well-equipped and the beds were comfortable.
The location is central, very close to the metro, with plenty of restaurants and shops around in the evening. At the same time it's on a small, quiet side street away from the tourist crowds, which we appreciated.

Location was perfect
I think that host forgot to install a bed for our party on the first night so we slept a bit uncomfortably, also there is not a clothes rack where to hang clothes in the courtyard an use the summer weather to dry your recently washed clothes
