Santeria Lodge is in a great location in Playa Carmen. It's clean and well organized. The rooms are clean, with enough space and comfortable! I appreciated the shared kitchen including the shared refrigerators. I felt the kitchen was kept clean for hostel standards. Each room has a little outdoor sitting area with good lighting which I liked to use mornings/evenings. The shower is hot enough with decent water pressure. They provided bar soap and towels. It was quiet enough, while still being on the main road. The connection with the surf shop and surf instructors absolutely made my trip! I had a great time with Allan and his crew of instructors at Pura Vida Surfers. The girls working at the surf shop were super helpful, kind and generous with their time. The pool is small but fresh and very welcomed after hot days at the beach!
The walls are rather thin, which is common in accommodations in Costa Rica/Central America. I used my noise cancelling airpods most nights.

Close to beach, restaurants, atv rental.
The nightlife can be loud but ear plugs and white noise can fix that if you need an early night.

The inside of the hostal is pretty nice with many Green plants
- There were no sockets in our room. Just one in the bathroom
- The check in was quite confusing, because you first have to write the owner before somebody shows up to open the door
- The shower was quite rusty and broken
- The gas of the stove was almost empty, so it took half an eternity to boil water
