We stayed in an Executive Suite at Shepherd’s Tree Game Lodge and loved it. The location is beautiful, with wonderful views over the reserve from the suite. The décor is elegant and the food was delicious. Staff were super friendly throughout.
The stocked minibar option was fine, though the drinks weren’t quite our usual choice. Romantic turndown was lovely — rose petals, candles, chocolates and sparkling wine. The couples massage was fantastic.
A memorable, well-run stay. Highly recommended.
Food quality was somewhat inconsistent — ranging from good to great rather than consistently excellent. Our game-drive guide was not very enthusiastic. Service at some meals was very slow and below the standard we experienced on previous visits.
Still a lovely stay overall, but the inconsistency in food and service was noticeable.

It was in a beautiful location. The surroundings and property were beautiful. Everything was connected to nature. Even had bamboos on the outside of the property.

The staff was generally friendly.
There were multiple incidents during our stay.
Firstly, our room was not cleaned on the second day. When we returned from the game drive, the lodge had had more than five hours to service the room, yet it had not been attended to.
Secondly, the reading light next to the bed was broken. The only solution offered was for us to remain in the room while maintenance closed the socket, which was highly inconvenient and uncomfortable.
In addition, the lodge was rationing water and informed us that we would have to pay for basic drinking water.
On the first evening of our stay, the food served made me ill and caused me to vomit. I had only consumed one glass of wine, so I do not believe the wine was the cause. The following morning, I informed the staff that I was still feeling unwell. They advised that breakfast would be delivered to my room; however, I was not given any choice regarding what I could eat. Instead, I was sent an omelette that was full of chillies, which I do not eat.
Overall, these incidents significantly impacted our experience and fell well below the standard we expected.
