This will read as a one star review (and should be a one star) but with management response, this will be two stars. My wife and I had to delay our wedding and honeymoon during the pandemic. We finally got married a few weeks ago and this was our honeymoon trip. We have been to Kauai and more specifically Kalapaki a few times prior. We have an instant connection to the island and the aloha and ohana spirit. This is a quaint and outdated condo, which adds to its charm. This has the look and feel of old Hawaii with modern amenities (WiFi, appliances, kitchen, Smart TVs). I can overlook the insects and the occasional Gecko as this is Hawaii after all. What I can't overlook is a privacy and security incident that occurred a couple of days prior to us leaving. The primary pass code that we were initially issued didn't work and were directed to utilize the emergency code during our stay. We were ensured the emergency code is specific to us and the particular condo. We had just returned from a tour of the Na Pali coast when the security and privacy incident occurred. My wife, while getting out of the shower, was greeted with a family that had rented out the adjacent condo. The family was issued our emergency code and had entered what they thought was the right condo as there is no on-site signage. Embarrassment, frustration, and confusion were felt between my wife, myself, and the family. This will forever be a part of our memories regarding our honeymoon. We immediately contacted management. The management's response was to remove all codes, issue new primary and emergency codes, review policies, conduct training to its employees, perform a refund for my wife and I, and the family, and took it a step further, and had issued a gift. The gift was their way of showing the aloha and ohana spirit. I can't recommend this stay and I hope positive changes occurred which will allow future families to enjoy the beautiful view without needing to worry about their privacy or security.

There were a lot of reviews stating that this place needed to be updated to which I say if you want a place that looks like a modern hotel lobby, stay somewhere else. If you don't plan to spend all your time inside on your Hawaiian vacation, this is a great place. It had all the basic necessities except the beach chairs provided were not beach chairs and sank into the sand. Everything else worked as expected. It does have carpet but I expect this is to reduce the noise to the condo below. The view of the beach and the mountains was great and the location was a short walk to the beach and restaurants. The place was at the end of the road with no traffic and noise.

We have used Vrbo many times and have always been impressed. This property doesn’t meet the normal standards. It could be a cute comfortable cottage. Cleaning and updating could bring it up to the level needed. When we arrived the microwave had obviously been on fire was unplugged and the door wouldn’t shut. This was the first thing that made us question our decision to stay.

Property location was fantastic. It is right above Kalapaki Beach and beach chairs, umbrella, and towels were provided. 2 bathrooms were a good feature. Kitchen is small, no diswasher, microwave was broken but was told a new one had been ordered. Silverware was sparse but a call to management and there was more waiting when back from our walk. Lots of trees around property and enjoyed morning walks along golf course where many bird varities were seen, including many Nene with chicks!! Yes, the unit is dated, but this is Hawaii, the tropics, and to be expected. I did not see geckos inside the unit. Unit was as advertised.

This place is in a wonderful location and we were delighted with all the things within walking distance, including a fabulous calm water beach, multiple shops, and delicious restaurants! It’s on the side of a sea cliff, so the views are gorgeous as well, except for the roof of the lower level that isn’t shown in the listing pictures. This listing is for the upper level of the house and has two patios on each end. The unit itself was ok, but is a few decades past needing a renovation and it could be so much nicer with a fresh paint job and updated flooring. The kitchen is quite small considering the size of the unit and has what appear to be the original cabinets circa 1960s/70s. Two bathrooms was nice and they both are rather spacious. Overall, the unit felt dingy and poorly maintained (very worn fixtures, carpet with a clearly defined dirt wear pattern, stained spots in the shower, etc). It did the trick for us, as we didn’t spend all that much time in the unit other than sleeping. One big plus was the property management who had a 24/7 assistance line available and were able to help immediately upon arrival when the door code provided would not work to let us in the unit. If you’re planning on a Kaua’i trip that will be spent enjoying all the wonderful outdoor things the island has to offer, I would recommend this place to save a bit from a budget standpoint. If you have a large family or will be in the unit fairly often, this might not be your best option. An additional note as well, literally everything after requesting the booking through VRBO is handled through a different booking app that the property company utilizes. It caused some confusion up front for me, as balances didn’t align until crunching the numbers.

Loved the location and view. The property itself really needs to be updated. A good, lighter, interior paint job. Get rid of the rug and put fake hardwood or what ever throughout. Minor annoyances like refrigerator door and freezer door in the wrong direction, washing machine door in the wrong direction- really a pain because it is in a tight corner. I probably would not stay here again unless it were upgraded.

This VRBO is located in a great spot. You can walk to the beach, get a pool day pass at the hotel next door and look over a beautiful bay with mountains in the distance all day and night. However, we cannot overlook the issues with this specific unit. When we arrived to the VRBO to check in, the code we were given did not work. We called the company behind this property and they tried to generate a new code for us to use. None of the codes provided worked. So, the property manager and the maintenance employee came to the unit to help us get in. They came fairly quickly and helped us get into the unit. Once in, we found cookies, a bottle of champagne and a card congratulating us on our marriage. Looking around the space, it was clear this unit was very outdated. There were stains on the shower curtains and window curtains, the glasses in the cabinet were dusty, the bathtub had brown spots and the bathroom mirror had black spots all over. The worse part was finding 3 geckos running around right before bed and a trail of gecko poop on top of the sliding glass door curtains. We had read the reviews before booking and saw that someone had poop in their bed when they stayed here. We thought it was an unfortunate, one time occurrence, but we quickly learned that was not the case. We caught 2 geckos before going to bed and found gecko poop on my pillow. We were unsettled to say the least. We told the company and they said it is normal for geckos to get into the house when living on a rural island like Kauai. When we woke up we could see a gecko or two peeking out of a hole in the beam above our bed. We think they were living there and the reason poop was on my pillow. Later that day we came home to a cockroach walking across the living room floor and more gecko poop on the bed. At that point we decided to stay elsewhere for the remainder of our trip as we were no longer comfortable staying in that VRBO. Thankfully management refunded our stay.
