Sleep to the rhythmic sounds of gentle waves lapping on your shore. Prolific wildlife abounds; eagles, loon, osprey and an occasional seal. Sunrises here are some of the most magnificent on planet earth! Her reflection off the sea might even dance across your ceilings if you are an early enough riser and have a desire to connect with the beauty that surrounds you here. The ocean and all her treasures are right at your footstep with a stunning porch that hangs over the sea and access to some of the finest lobster Maine has to offer just a few doors down at a quint New England, locally-owned, lobster shack. Exceptional panoramic, 180-degree views of Acadia National Park. Conveniently located only 15 minutes from two quintessential New England villages; Blue Hill and Ellsworth for restaurants and shopping. Endless outdoor adventures are to be found in this part of Downeast Maine. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are a 50 minute drive. Nearby hiking, boating, horse-back riding, bike riding, mountain climbing, painting, whale watching, fishing, sailing, kayak rentals and more are all available. FYI if you are coming with small children; this special property is literally right on the ocean. Porch overhangs the water and stairs down to the sea, neither are child proofed. Please take care. That said, the owner's children enjoyed the home since they were wee. Epic Atlantic, typically calm waters for little ones. Also note no play yard. Please note the propane grill is not available in the off season. This is a non-smoking, no pet vacation rental property.

Just what we needed; a restful, quiet time in a beautiful location. Well supplied house with many amenties for a very comfortable stay. Plenty of space and amazing scenary. Hopeful for a return in the future.

Clean as a whistle and cozy, this home has amazing views with ten windows facing the water. We loved seeing the lobster boats come and go and although we didn't see seals at this time of year, there were loons and two bald eagles. We just loved it here and hope to return. Thank you!

I loved the location! The communication and responsiveness from the host was fantastic. The property itself and deck could use some updating/remodeling but overall we were comfortable, had all the amenities and loved the full wall of windows viewing the ocean!

This property is right on the water with fantastic views of the bay and harbor. Walk the beach or walk to Perry's Lobster shack for the freshest lobster as you can watch them unload the days catch before you dine.

I had a great time staying at Idle Hour II for four nights in late September. The house is extremely comfortable, with everything needed right at hand. I slept in the upstairs bedroom to maximize my view of the water. The deck facing the inlet was clearly the highlight for me. Sitting there in the evening dark, watching the stars, hearing the water gently lapping at the shore, and just letting time slip away! Utterly magical. I hope I can stay here the next time I visit Maine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Idle Hour, until Hurricane Lee chased us out a day early! The location was perfect for the activities we planned. Instructions were clear, house was immaculate and we couldn’t be more pleased with everything. If you’re considering booking this property, put it on your short list!

Beautiful, clean, spacious and well stocked. The drive to Acadia was scenic with convenient stops along the way (fuel, food etc.). We had a great trip and really enjoyed the vibe and views at this house!

We stayed for two weeks here and the view is beautiful, better than the pictures. The house is clean and well stocked with kitchen and bathroom supplies. Perry’s for good lobster is a short walk away. We had a couple of questions and minor issues when we first arrived, and the property manager was helpful and responded promptly. One note of caution for light sleepers — this property is right on a road, but the road is a dead end. It’s not like being on a highway, but there is frequent traffic. Light sleepers might find the traffic noise disturbing. It woke me pretty regularly, but my husband slept like a baby. All things considered, I’d rent again, but bring earplugs for myself.

We had a wonderful week in this lovely property. The view is just incredible and calming. The house is well equipped and I even managed to get some work done, at the desk facing the ocean. It’s definitely worth taking walks and enjoying the different points of view. We will come back.

Property was nice… we were looking forward to using the fire pit , but it was not operational . We did report it to the property manager…. The remote controls for the bedrooms ac are cumbersome to use and possibly need new batteries. The view from the living room was very pretty. Home was very clean and nicely decorated.

What a wonderful getaway right on the water with your own little beach! The views simply can’t be beat. Absolutely stunning!!! The house was exactly as described and very clean. The kitchen is very nicely stocked and we had everything we needed. We were hoping to use the fire pit on our last night and were disappointed to learn there was no propane left. My only suggestion that would have improved our stay would have been the addition of room darkening curtains over the blinds because with those spectacular views comes that beautiful sunshine waking you up nice and early (whether you wanted it to or not!). Pack an eye mask if you’re like us and want to sleep in a little. We had an absolutely wonderful stay and would come back in a heartbeat! Thank you for sharing this beautiful getaway with us!

As others have already noted - the cleanliness and overall condition can't be beat. Responsiveness of property manager was impressive. It was gorgeous and such a treat to stay in. Everything we needed was available throughout the house. Plenty to do in the area even during Thanksgiving week; restaurants and shops gave us nice choices. We had a lovely, memorable week.

The cottage was lovely, very nicely decorated, with a well-supplied kitchen, ample bed and bath linens, wifi, tv and games. The cottage has a waterfront location and many windows resulting in fabulous 180-degree views. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the sunrise, gazing at the multitude of stars in the night sky, as well as seeing the wildlife and watercraft on the water. For us, the property also provided good access for day trips to Acadia National Park and Schoodic Penninsula (about a 50 minute drive), Blue Hill, Deer Isle. We hope to return sometime soon.

Well maintained, very clean property. No issues at all. Kitchen was well stocked and we really appreciated that toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent were readily available for our stay. Our favorite part of this property however was the view. Waking up to the sunrise over the water each morning was the highlight of our stay. Highly recommend a stay at Idle Hour II.

Very clean and well appointed but most importantly, a wall of windows overlooking the bay. Location is great for exploring with nature trails close by and Acadia, Schoodic Peninsula, and Deer Isle all within an hour’s (very scenic) drive.

Beautiful well kept home on the water. The house is well stocked for doing your own cooking. I highly recommend driving down to the Stonnington Lobster Co-op to pick out fresh live lobster off the dock. The best lobster we had during our visit in Maine.

The house was amazing and the pictures don’t do it justice. When we got there everything was super clean and it was just wall to wall windows. It was dark when we got there, but the sunrise in the morning was magnificent and the view was to die for. It was a short walk to Perry’s lobster house and totally worth it.

Incredible waterside location, spotlessly clean and quieter than you could possible imagine. We spent 5 heavenly nights here over a holiday weekend and enjoyed every second. Remote, yet close enough for day trips to Bar Harbor, Acadia, and the Schoodic Peninsula. Kitchen was well stocked to create multiple lobster dinners, furnishing were cozy and comfortable. Decor is classy nautical, with Rosenfield prints on the walls and Ansel Adams coffee table books. Plenty of puzzles and childrens toys abound. The best part are the sunrises over the inlet, with incredible views from every room in the house. Would return in a heartbeat.
