The property is very close to everything and has a nice car park right behind it. The kitchen was huge and there was plenty of room for people to sit and eat. Check in was quick and our beds already had sheets on them when we arrived. I want to note that we were a group of six who had a private room, so this review doesn’t reflect the typical hostel sleeping arrangements. Our private room had a lock on it which made us feel very safe about leaving our items while we went out.
My main complaint about this hostel was the showers. The timer on them was very inconsistent. Once when I showered, I had about 30 seconds when I hit the button. Great! The other few times I showered, I had quite literally 5 seconds. This made it incredibly difficult and frustrating to shower and especially to rinse my hair. By the time I turned around after hitting the button, the water would already have turned off. I ended up having to press my elbow onto the button just to try and rinse myself. The water was also very cold several times. My other friends experienced these same issues.
My other complaint is that the wall and floor underneath our beds was coated in dust and filth.

Perhaps the best hostel kitchen I’ve ever seen. Very good location. Free coffee was nice.
Showers were horrible!!!!! Water only warm, not hot. Had to push a button over and over and over again… every 3-4 seconds to keep the water flowing. So angry I only showered once in four days. Should be illegal. Most expensive hostel I’ve ever stayed in out of sixty around the world.

The kitchen is amazing, and the view from there is really great, bathrooms are usually really clean and wifi works as expected.
It looks a bit old. It’s not as terrible as some other reviews mentioned, but they definitely need to improve the bunk beds. There should be power outlets next to each bed, but instead they’re all located at the end of the room, and the beds don’t have curtains. This place definitely needs an update, but other than that, it’s a good place to stay in Portree without spending too much.
