We had such a lovely stay at this property. Ruben was very communicative and friendly. The backyard is amazing. We definitely will be back!

Clean, cozy rooms. Nice wood pellet stove. Enclosed outdoor yard good for dogs, though the woods & paths on the other side of the fence are off limits, as the many security cameras & no trespassing signs make quite clear. Across the street howeber is undeveloped land worth hiking in, despite the limited trails. The policy of having to contact host 30 min before arrival in order to get lock code is frustrating, as it means having to pull off the highway & accessing the VRBO app, since host’s phone # is disconnected. It’s doubly frustrating if the VRBO app isn’t working on your cell; in our case I couldn’t reach the host until I arrived & managed to connect to WiFi (only then cd I make the VRBO app work for some reason) while standing outside the lock in the rain. Host quickly responded & all was well, but it wasn’t the best experience getting access. (Just send the pass code to guests the morning of their stay.)

Ruben was an excellent host he communicated that the original listing needed work and generously offered to host us at his other listing next door at no extra cost. The new location was more spacious than the original and had all of the same amenities including a pellet stove, hot tub and a fireplace along with wifi and even board games! Everything was clean and orderly, and we had the upmost feeling of privacy in the woods. I truly cant think of anything that needed improvement. If you are looking for an accessible private getaway in upstate New York this is the place to be.

This charming cottage was perfect for our family. The property took our breath away and we spent most of our time outside. Very clean. Plenty of bedding and towels. Enjoyed the jacuzzi and fire pit very much. Ruben was very responsive and easy to work with. We hope to return!

The hosts were extremely accommodating and understanding when our arrival was delayed. It's easy to find, off the beaten path, but minutes from Cold Spring ( a must visit) plus, Metro North trains will wisk you south to The City for a day trip. The Appalachian trail is very close which offers a wonderful woodsy experience, and you are right on the mighty Hudson River near Bannermans Island and across from West Point.

Lovely escape
Our family had a wonderful time on a short trip. The house had everything we needed and we loved the jacuzzi. My kids are already asking to go back. Property manager was very responsive to my inquiries.

Spacious yet cozy 2 bedroom cottage
This was a cozy yet spacious cottage with a beautiful back yard area. Very clean and had everything we needed (shampoo, hair dryer, lighter, window opener, pots and pans, etc) The area is wooded and quiet and off the beaten path. Owner was very responsive to messages and have clear instructions for a contactless check in. WiFi and tv worked perfectly!

Cold Springs Stay
My spouse and I stayed at the cottage after a two-week hiking trip. We wanted a cozy play to stay with our sister & brother-in-law and their new baby.
Positives: The property was perfect for our stay with two standard poodles. The dogs did great with the backyard, even though it is not fully fenced. The house had plenty of comfy couches and chairs to sit on and talk. We really enjoyed the patio set outside for eating and conversation. The kitchen and grill were fully functional, not well stocked, but functional. The proximity to town was a huge plus. We enjoyed a few afternoons in Cold Spring with views of the Hudson.
Areas for improvement: The house has incredibly potent potpourri in both bedrooms. We had to store the potpourri in a cabinet due to the intense smell and allergies. I would recommend removing the potpourri entirely as it was not enjoyable for any of us. The kitchen is minimally stocked with older pots/pans and incomplete dish sets. The beds are old. The king bedroom is too soft and sags toward the center. The smaller bed feels very cheap with a hard spring mattress. As someone with lower back pain, both beds worsened the pain. There are many rugs throughout the house which could use a more thorough cleaning. Finally, the linens could use an upgrade. The place could be cute, cozy, and comfortable with a few small upgrades.

We left the place about 5 minutes after arriving as it did not seem COVID safe. The air was very stuffy. There was what looked like a very COVID-unsafe fraternity party going on in the back yard (about a dozen young people without masks and not observing social distancing). The TV inside was on and we did not know who had been in there, how recently, and what they were up to. We briefly tried to open the window to air the place out but did not immediately succeed and so we decided not to risk it and just leave. We have rented many holiday houses over the years and this is the first time we just bailed without attempting to resolve problems with the landlord. Based on his previous communications with us (see next paragraph), we did not think he would be receptive to our concerns or have the ability to resolve them. (This assessment was borne out by our subsequent communications with him.)
The day before our check-in date the owner sent us instructions for the house with a lot of unreasonable / unfriendly parts (many of them IN ALL CAPS). Perhaps others would find such a missive reasonable, but we would certainly not have rented the place had we known that we'd have to deal with a landlord like that. Instead of going into detail about the many objectionable parts of that document, we just advise prospective renters to get the instructions before finalizing the rental and decide for yourself whether you are up for it.

We enjoyed our stay at the carraige house. Very comfortable and inviting. Our critters felt at home. Ruben was very accommodating to our needs. Loved the backyard view and the sounds of the evening crickets.

Wonderful cabin property that is perfectly secluded but also close to stores.
Family (son and dog) loved the property and took advantage of the spacious backyard.

Great spot for a getaway!
A quiet spot up in he Highlands yet still close to so much. Our family loved the house and the property was amazing. The pond and trail across the street was a highlight for the kids and the dog. Easy access to hiking and downtown Cold Spring. Ruben was very easy to communicate with.

Perfect Escape
No need to travel far to find a little private winter escape. Privacy, relaxation and tranquil setting was just what we were looking for (myself, my wife and 2 year old daughter) and is exactly what we got. A well equipped and updated home plus the outdoor space for grilling, sledding and playscape for our daughter was just what we needed. Ruben was attentive and a pleasure to communicate with on any items we were looking for or needed. A return trip will be booked soon for the spring / summer.

Perfect getaway
Rubin’s property was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, secluded and a big back yard for our dog. We trained in from NYC and he even gave us a ride back to the train station on the day we checked out. Highly recommend - we will be returning in the future.

Nice winter escape for family!
Nice escape even in winter! We enjoyed the backyard immensely with our 3 year old. It’s very large and has a great swing set. Very close to some nice simple hiking. Very quiet. House is very warm if you want it to be heated. Ruben was a very responsive host.

Cozy weekend getaway
Spent a couple of nights here and enjoyed the cozy couches and beds, books and games. The kitchen is well equipped. The only downside is the lack of indoor dining space for a family of four. Great yard! Need to try the jacuzzi next time!

Weekend Break
We stayed at Ruben's charming carriage house for a short weekend break. The property was wonderful and comfortable. My 5 year old daughter loved it. She really enjoyed the playset and especially loved the blue swing. She pretended she was on a magic carpet! The surrounding are is wonderful. The nearby lake, a 2 minute walk, added to the fun. It was a pleasure meeting Ruben. He was very accommodating and attentive. Given the opportunity we would stay at his property again. Thank you Ruben.

Lovely getaway
My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend with our small dog and it was a lovely and peaceful fall getaway from the city. The yard isn't fully fenced but our dog still enjoyed playing outside and walking along the secluded road to the house and the nearby lake. We also loved the farmer's market and meat shop and coffee shop (all just a few minutes drive by car). The deck and fire pit are wonderful and the beds are comfortable.
