The house is a traditional Madeira house, beautifully renovated to offer all comfort possible. The garden and terrace are stunning, with beautiful views. Everything is new and spotless clean. Arrival and communication etc well organized and efficient, albeit impersonal plus further issues (read further below, hence the 6/10 score).
Full-time pool heating was only turned on on the third day, upon request, and again turned off two days before we left, with no notice. Despite informing the housekeeper, nobody checked. The owner then accused us of not having the pool covered - which is untrue, it was covered the entire time. I understand that the heating costs are high since it was so cold during our stay. But if you advertise with a pool temperature of min 26 degrees, you have to hold that promise or at least give us notice if that’s not possible AND NOT BLAME THE GUESTS FOR IT.
Due to the fact that the house is old (renovated but the structure is old), you have the typical issues in winter with dampness in the rooms and bathrooms.
The area is quite cold vs. rest of the south coast - just bear this in mind if you’re there in winter.
