The location was great, the homeowners were kind, it heated well. The kitchen is fully stocked. Very clean. The place itself is actually an apartment.
I felt that the 3rd party company, Popholiday, that manages this place is doing the owners and customers a disservice by misrepresenting it on Booking. When I booked it, the description read "Gîte La Bresse, 3 pièces, 4 personnes - FR-1-589-97 is situated in La Bresse. It is located 7 km from La Bresse Ski School and provides free WiFi and free private parking. The holiday home features 2 bedrooms, a kitchen with a dishwasher and a microwave, a washing machine, and 1 bathroom. A TV is featured." That's was the entire description. But, it wasn't actually a holiday home, instead its an apartment within the owners' house. This was not clear on the Booking website - even after looking at pictures which showed the whole place. When we got into the rental, there were no towels or bed sheets included. When using Booking.com I generally assume that a place will have typical 'hotel' amenities - meaning I can pop in and sleep. When this is the exception, Booking.com has been quite clear in the main hotel description. I went back to our booking and spent a long time digging through the fine print to find a single sentence specifying no linens. Sure, I should read those, but it felt sneaky to hide this detail. The home itself is fine, but old. Furniture is old and hard - wooden slat bench super hard to sit on for dinner. I feel that the Popholiday folks are charging rates (I paid two hundred euro nightly) for a small cabin rental. The info they've placed on Booking.com is not transparent about what this property truly is. This place is not bad; it would be priced right at half of what I paid, being oldish, an apartment, but especially not including linens. Again, not the owners fault; they are nice and its very clean.
