Short Stay Wageningen

The hotel was centrally located and easy to reach. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything needed to prepare your own meals.

I found ShortStay Wageningen at the Plantsoen 40 location a convenient and comfortable base for a 3-week stay in August while helping my son settle in as an international exchange student at Wageningen University. The aparthotel is located in the heart of the downtown area next to practical shops like HEMA and Action where he purchased essential items for his housing on the edge of campus. I used the Busstation Wageningen stop (9-min walk) to get to campus and to the Ede-Wageningen train station from which I visited nearby towns like Utrecht, Arnhem, Den Bosch, and Amersfoort easily. A highlight was the sculpture garden at the Kroller-Muller Museum. My deluxe studio was on the 3rd floor, and there was no elevator. The laundry room is in the basement level and uses an app called Appwash (4.50 eur to wash; 3.50 eur to dry). The room has a mini-split A/C, which I used frequently in August, big windows that can be cracked open, digitally controlled vents in the walls, and temperature-controlled floors. While there is a full kitchen, I did not use the cooktop due to the cautionary sign about risks in setting off the fire alarm and having the fire department rush over. The microwave was sufficient, though. I appreciated the full refrigerator and dishwasher, too. I did not choose regular housekeeping, but there were extra sets of towels and linens for the longer stay. Many of the furnishings and supplies appear to be from IKEA (saw same bed linens in the Utrecht store). Aside from written messaging prior to arrival, I did not see any ShortStay staff other than occasional housekeepers as they tidied other rooms. Another guest helped me get the physical keytag out of the lockbox instead of Bluetooth AirKey, which I had a little trouble using. It was an excellent stay and allowed me to feel a little bit like a local rather than a tourist while I was there. Thank you!

There is no elevator, which made bulky luggage a tough climb, and it would have been nice to have sunscreens on the windows facing the other apartment building across the street for more privacy while allowing light through (besides the curtains).
