Casa Swell Coronado, Adults-Only Boutique Hotel, Pool & Beach

The location

There was nothing inviting about the guest room. Just aplace to sleep and bathe.

The property was unique and had such a nice laid back feel! Johnathan and Tatiana were amazing hosts! They were very sweet people and accommodating in every way!

The only thing was the entrance was a bit difficult to find, but the owners said they were planning to make it more accessible in the near future.

The staff is super friendly - Tatiana and Jonathan made really sure that our stay was super comfy and with an amazing quality of service. This is a piece of heaven on earth and we are already planning to return

Casa Swell, in my opinion, has quite a few positives along with negatives; honestly it just wasn’t for us. We stayed only 2 of the 7 nights we had booked. A few things you may want to consider before booking. Positives: The grounds are beautiful and clean, including the pool. Additionally, Jay will offer tours for payment, and share his knowledge of the Coronado area including real estate. Our private bedroom and bathroom included a large shower. The room had a king bed, a twin bed and a trundle bed. Along with the pool, we had use of a communal outdoor covered kitchen and outdoor communal living room area with multiple seating options and a pool table.

Negatives: Although the grounds of Casa Swell are beautiful, we ended up only staying 2 of the 7 nights we had reserved. In our room we had to step up and down from the concrete bed platform to the concrete floor. I am older and the raised concrete platform bed to a concrete floor and back up was rough for me, especially in the middle of the night for a bathroom run. It was also difficult having no where to sit in our room, other than the bed or on concrete. There are no chairs in your room, however there are 2 chairs to sit in just outside your door. Panamá is hot and humid, there are times I want to be in air-conditioning sitting in a chair. The other issue to consider is the need to go to the outdoor communal kitchen for all liquids and food. It sounded good to us at first, however since no food can be in your room; it is difficult to run to the refrigerator later at night in your pajamas and have to finish all items there in your pajamas with others around. On the flip side one does get to run into and meet other guests easily. I think part of the issue is Casa Swell is marketed as a “Luxury” location. For us, it does not meet the definition of luxury. Very nice and clean, yes; however luxury, not by my standards. Outcome: We spoke with Jay, who said he would not charge us for a tour he provided, and said to contact Booking.com regarding a refund (we booked thru Booking.com). He said Booking would then reach out to him. We did contact Booking.com; they called Jay. Booking.com told us we would receive a full refund for the nights we did not stay and sent us an email stating the specific dollar amount we would receive. We did receive a credit from Casa Swell, but it is 30% less than what Booking.com said we would receive. I notified Booking.com and Jay has since sent me numerous emails explaining why we did not receive 30% of the refund including that the woman who called him from Booking.com didn’t understand what he said.
