Situated in Galena, this lovely bed and breakfast for $167 per night is a great option for your next break. This 1842 Federal House invites you to stay in a Luxurious, Private & Spacious Suite, with King Bed, well appointed private bath, comfy seating area around the Fireplace, dining table, Wet Bar with fridge and microwave, desk, TV and hi speed internet. A savory, homemade breakfast is served in the main Dining Room or delivered to your suite each morning. The wet bar with fridge and microwave is stocked with beverages, ice, coffee, coffee maker, tea, tea kettle, small oven, blender, glasses and dishes. The city of Galena does not allow us to serve or sell alcoholic beverages. Please feel free to provide your own. Outside relax on the front patio or in the back garden. On site, off street parking. Excellent location on Bench Street in the heart of Galena's historic district, next door to the Library and just steps from Main Street for all the restaurants and shops. Walking distance to Grant's home. The trail system for hiking is just out the back door. Ride a few blocks to the miles of biking trails. The Federal House is a petite B&B with just 2 suites. We stayed at "This Old House" last weekend in Galena! It was so charming but not without it's issues. There was a definite tilt to all of the floors, as I would expect in an old house.
The rugs in the bathroom and hall were damp. There was a sign to make sure to keep the shower curtain inside the lip for the shower. Too bad the lip was so shallow. Oops I forgot my slippers, so I had damp socks all weekend.
The charm of the large rooms and antique decor in our suite (the size of a small apartment) outweighed the problems that my construction (retired) husband could see; I loved the firm king bed and the outstanding breakfasts by the amazing on site chef!! Order everything!! It's all delicious!
My only real issue was the dust, as I am allergic. As soon as we walked in, my nose and head filled up due to an exorbitant amount of dust everywhere and on everything, even the linens and towels. It was tough on me, especially since we were there over a below zero weekend and weren't able to leave due to -20+ wind chills. Even all of the churches were closed.
With a thorough cleaning, and some airing out, it would have been a absolutely delightful weekend B & B. I suggest the managers invest in this; it would make a major difference.
Thank you to both Kate and Gabby for your wonderful hospitality, which almost made up for the dust issue. Both ladies cared so much about our comfort and happiness. They went above and beyond to make us happy on such a dreary weekend!!

This very old house was beautiful and had all the modern necessities added to the inside right along side the historical features. It was a perfect place in a great town. Kate and Doug (and their dog Cody!) were awesome. What a privilege to get to know them. This was a much needed vacation for us and the house and town did not disappoint. Absolutely perfect.

My hubby and I met friends here and enjoyed two days in Galena. The inn is quite comfortable and spacious. Bed was very comfortable, and we enjoyed the fireplace as it was cool and rainy. The food was yummy, and we felt relaxed and pampered. I would definitely stay here again.

We had two sixtieth birthday parties and this was the perfect place to celebrate! Spent a lovely afternoon sitting on the back patio. This is a charming, hospitable and relaxing place to enjoy.

This property and owner (Kate) were both well above average in every way. Additional accommodations were made with no issue to suit our group. Galena is a very quaint area & The Federal House is located to walk to everything. The breakfast served was lovely as well with several options. Excellent location for accessing the main road of shops. Breakfast each morning was delicious, prompt, and served with friendly and attentive care. Checkin was a little tricky as we never got a text with the details and had to call the host at night when we arrived. But she promptly explained how to get in over the phone and we were good! Would recommend this B&B for sure.

From start to finish, just a great stay. Kate was very easy to message with any questions we had. Property is exactly as it looks on here and is very charming. Quiet location within walking distance to wonderful Main Street. Amy’s breakfasts were delicious. We highly recommend.

Lovely King suite with easy walk to Main Street with it's many shops and restaurants. Location was easy to find located next to the Library.
The room was large enough for our party of 3. Along with listed mini fridge and microwave there were actual dishes and glassware. Large bathroom allowed plenty of space for 2 to get ready at the same time and there were many towels!
As there were 3 of us the "cot" provided was actually a double height auto air mattress, it was all made and ready for our arrival and did not limit our space in the suite. . Everyone slept well! Surrounding neighborhood was quiet.
Breakfasts were delicious and each morning varied. Chef Amy was attentive, always asked for feedback re options for the next day. There was also a paper menu to fill out. Amy remained available throughout our stay in case we needed anything, which was very helpful. .
Owner Kate messaged regularly before the trip and day of arrival. As photos showed, this old home is beautifully decorated. We had access to the dining room and living room for when local family visited. I will definitely return!

My daughters, another family member, and I booked two rooms during Galena's Oktoberfest, and found the location perfect for attending the festival, shopping and dining. It's about a five-minute walk to the shopping area, and we enjoyed not having to search for parking this year. Both rooms were clean and spacious, and everyone found the beds comfortable. The hosts were quick to respond to our questions before and after arrival, and everyone enjoyed visiting with the housekeeper as we gathered in the dining room each morning for breakfast. It was nice to discover that breakfast could be delivered to the room if anyone wanted to keep a different schedule. We all felt like we were welcome guests, and hope to return.

My friend and I stayed here for a girls weekend. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. Any questions we had were quickly answered. The room was very large, clean and beautiful. Each morning we had a lovely homemade breakfast. My friend and I will be coming back here next year and will book this same room!

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Federal House. Loved the history of the home. It was clean and had everything we could have needed. Amy served a lovely breakfast every morning. We were very close to everything downtown and yet where we were seemed very private.

We loved our couple days that we stayed here in Galena. The owner was friendly, the room was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included. We chose to eat in our room and breakfast was brought promptly at the time we requested each morning. The food was delicious. The house is in a great location, located within walking distance of all the shops. I would definitely stay here again!!

Everything about our stay, the property and the historic village was terrific. While it is an "over-touristed" town, it was still well worth the visit, for two nights to visit the town and the surrounding region. The home itself was wonderfully renovated, very comfortable and breakfasts were delicious and with variety. The home sits above the downtown but only 5 to 10 minute walk down. Top tier experience.

The Federal House and Galena were perfect for our weekend getaway. The room was spacious and beautiful and the location was great. Easy walking distance from main street, but being a block off of it made it much quieter! Kate was a perfect host and easily reachable to answer questions and give recommendations. Amy's food for breakfast was amazing you must try the homemade cinnamon bread and the French toast! We were so full from breakfast each day we never had to get lunch!

A wonderful experience. Located a nice short walk away from Main Street, the B and B is spacious and well-furnished, the owner is responsive and accommodating, and the breakfasts are delicious (Thank you, Amy). Amazing French toast and quiche the two mornings we stayed. A great way to start the day before visiting the town. Close enough to walk back and recuperate throughout the day and enjoy the shopping, kayaking, hiking and dinners Galena has to offer.

The house is beautiful and located close enough to the center of town to be able to walk to Main Street, but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. The room was beautifully furnished and the bed was comfortable and we got a great nights sleep. We also loved having a delicious breakfast in the dining room each morning. It was perfect!

We had a wonderful long weekend at the suite in Galena. The B&B is incredibly charming, beautiful and comfortable, and we loved the homemade breakfast every morning. I really appreciated that the suite was dog-friendly so we could bring my pup along. The location was absolutely perfect and walkable to the many things the Main Street district has to offer. Kate was very communicative and the check-in instructions were very detailed and clear. We arrived after dark and had no issues finding the parking area and getting into our suite. Would definitely stay here again on a return trip!

Comfy bed, large tub, delicious breakfast, quiet and private, perfect location for walking ~ visited the library, Galena Cellars Vineyard (live music) and a bit of shopping but most of our time was sleeping, reading and talking in the comfort of our suite!

The breakfast was very good and plentiful especially the quiche, mixed fresh fruit and cinnamon bread. Our suite was very spacious with everything we needed. The house is a very old historic home. The furniture and decor fit the house. Our suite was dog friendly and close to the main street. It had the best mattress and sheets. We slept wonderfuly. Kate was very kind and accomodating. Amy was our cook for breakfast. She was wonderful and each breadfast was a real feast. I would highly recommend this B&B.

This elegant historic mansion is full of gorgeous chandeliers and lovely antiques. My sisters and I loved the suite, especially the sitting area by the fireplace. The bathroom was huge and accommodating for us and the claw foot tub was a great addition.
Our breakfasts cooked by Amy were delicious and large portions....more than we could eat! The welcome platter of snacks & fresh cookies was so thoughtful too.
We would definitely go back and I've already refereed friends to the Federal House.

My wife and I had never been to Galena before and we found this B&B and it looked very charming. Turned out to be beautiful and Kate and Amy were awesome. This home is amazing and they made the trip even better. Breakfast in our room was very good and quaint at our small breakfast table. We have already talked about going back.
