About this condo rental
Located in Montara, this lovely condo for $172 per night is a great option for your next break. *Please read until the end* This quiet retreat by the ocean has everything you need. Watch the sunset over the Pacific from your porch or walk to the beach and the many trails overlooking the coast around Montara mountain. Amenities, shops and transportation are within a couple of blocks, and San Francisco or Silicon Valley are an easy 20-40 minutes away. We're an international family & have traveled a lot ourselves, so we know the importance of having a comfortable place to recharge and reconnect! You'll be able to hear the distant sound of waves crashing as you enjoy a space that is safe, clean, tranquil and comfortable. You will have your own entrance to the suite, which has a queen bed, its own full bathroom with bathtub and shower head, a desk, Wi-Fi, smart TV, mini-fridge, microwave, an electric kettle and a French press for tea or coffee, a closet with an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer, a first-aid kit and all the bedding and bathroom supplies you'll need. There are extra glasses and chairs for reading or having people over. Bed linens and towels are made of organic cotton and are super soft, and the comforter is organic and extremely cozy as well. The mattress is made of organic latex and cocolatex, firm, and great for your back. While we do not rule out pets, it’s important that our nice organic linens, bedding, upholstery, furniture, appliances etc. be taken good care of and not be ruined, damaged or worn by pets. If you’re intending to come with pets, please let us know. After your reservation is confirmed, you will find a House Manual with lots of useful information, including a complete list of House Rules and check-in & checkout instructions. Please read the Manual BEFORE you arrive and let us know if you have any questions or if there's anything you'd like to discuss. Clear, open communication is paramount to us. We expect our guests to put as much care and attention into their use of the space and communicating with us as we do. As a bonus, if you happen to cancel your trip past the free cancellation period and someone else then books the same dates, we're happy to credit your payment toward another stay in the future. The oceanview and location of this suite is very nice. The suite is spacious with a lovely bathroom.
It served our needs well for visiting our son!
Only issue was the internet. I had read only one review about having problems with it, and I thought it would fine. But my husband was trying to work and the internet kept dropping his connection. Not sure if it is because of the location of the suite compared to where the router is located in the home, but if you need internet it might be difficult to obtain.

Wonderful little room in a nice location. Very clean and comfortable. The check-in process was a little more involved than other stays, but understandable and serves nicely to fully communicate expectations. Communication with the host was prompt and friendly.

I recommend staying here but just a few heads up items. Wifi comes and goes and often times does not work for hours at a time. Also the bed was not soft so if you like soft beds, don't stay here. They also have tons of rules/ reading to do before you come but it's important so I'd suggest reading it.... But overall great location, very pretty and the landlord/ property owner are extremely nice. i would come back despite my complaints above.

A room attached to a resident . Bed is a rock with bad covers. No door code for hours this left us stranded . Vrbo did not help and the owner did not connect with us by phone . Delayed response from owner by text and he did not call us. The yard was weeds. No sugar or creamers. I was embarrassed that I ask a friend that had to go through all of this. It was bad. He needs to see what that odor is.

My partner and I had an awesome 3-night stay at this property! It was so clean, beautifully decorated and our host was so nice. Loved the town the property was located in and it was an easy drive back into the city when we needed. 5 stars well deserved!

For a weekend getaway for a couple, this property is perfect. It is a few hundred feet from the ocean with an almost unobstructed view. The west coast is, of course, spectacular, and Montara is a small quiet community within a short driving distance to the amenities of both Half Moon Bay and Pacifica. The room is attached to a bigger house at the back, but access is independent. Before booking this place, make sure you understand that, unlike a lot of properties on VRBO, this is not a full house but a room with a bathroom. There is a microwave and a refrigerator and a few kitchen items which make it convenient to heat leftovers. Within these constraints, it is perfect, a beautiful house, beautiful surroundings, and a responsive host. Before you book, also be aware: the Northern California coast is cold and windy in winter, so plan accordingly. This part of the coast is also dotted with small, uncrowded beaches, but in order to get to the nearest one, you have to cross the Pacific Coast Highway, and there is no stop light. We were able to walk in the neighborhood, and along a trail to the coast and saw horses and one rider. There must be other trails, perhaps up in the hills which you can investigate.
Oliver, the host, was always available to respond to my questions, and provided me with an extra comforter when requested. All in all, a very nice experience. There is a dog who barked the first time I got there, but after that it was nice to hear his/her footsteps going around the house. The only negative thing I can say is that the front door flaps in the wind, and I was on tenterhooks making sure it didn’t bang open or closed and damage the glass or the frame. But that goes with the territory.

Oliver was very up front and straight forward in his communication. The property was better than expected due to its proximity to great hiking and a beautiful dog friendly beach. The community was very dog friendly as well.The room itself was just right for people who plan on dropping and going during the day then relaxing on the small porch in the evening. Be aware the “kitchen” is similar to what you might find in a hotel room. So don’t really expect to cook there. Overall we loved our time in Montara Beach!!!

Very specific detailing in preparations and communications prior to arrival - good communication and quick responses. This is a simple but very adequate get away with alot of options for beach and off the beaten path Half Moon Bay experience. I did enjoy my stay. Small bits of things bothered me - like I was super drawn to the hanging chair on the deck in the pictures but no chair ( or anything on the deck at all), 2 longish dark hairs fell off the towel when going to dry myself after a bath, and luke warm water ( I like a HOT bath but never got one). There was a dog upstairs that barked at sounds and so I decided to change my plan for hubby to drop off my 2 little dogs - who would have not liked that barking. Host was kind enough to refund my pet fee but I ended up needing to pay pet fee for unexpected need at home because of this change. All in all I give it a 4 out of 5. Thanks for a nice stay.

The room is very clean, great for 2 people (plenty of room), close to beach access and plenty of sightseeing. Additionally, the proximity to SF was a bonus. Host was very prompt in replying to our questions/requests, which we really appreciate. Price is amazing for the area. Thanks again for the awesome stay!

We spent a weekend here and enjoyed ourselves. Oliver communicated well before and during our stay. As others have mentioned, there are extensive rules for the property (more than other properties we have rented), but if you are a respectful guest, it should be fine. The location is great - quiet neighborhood with beach access and hiking nearby. There are several good restaurant options in nearby Half Moon Bay. As mentioned in the listing, it is a unit in a house - one the first level under the main house. It feels a bit like you're in an apartment building in terms of hearing sounds from your upstairs neighbors. If you're sensitive to that kind of noise, you may want to look for a different option. The bed is very hard - this is a personal preference issue for folks so I wanted to mention that. But the unit was clean and the neighborhood was lovely.

Was tough to leave this warm and inviting space in a quiet neighborhood, with incredible sunset views over the ocean from every window. Montara Beach is a gem, and just a short walk away. Miles of trails leading up to several mountain peaks or to bluffs overlooking the water open up from a trailhead right down the street. Oliver is a superb host, and offers tons of great, local spots to explore or grab a bite to eat. Can't recommend this spot enough.

The place is cute but would really benefit from sound proofing. If the host or the host's roommate decides to entertain, walk above you on the upper floor, use their balcony, or just have a loud conversation you can hear it very well. Their long house rules guide, requests visitors to start quiet hours at 9pm. But as we found out, those rules are not enforced in the main house. I was there for a work trip and needed to keep early hours. The second night we stayed there, there was entertaining going on in the main house. They were having quite a rowdy time and did not stop at the house's quiet hours at 9pm. I tried to contact the host, but got no response. We ended up having to knock on the main house door at 9:45. The woman who answered the door was rude and although she promised they would quiet down, they did not. They continued partying into the night, we could hear their stories, laughter, and crying. I found out later when the host messaged me, the next morning that this was his housemate entertaining and he was out of town. The host was not very apologetic to our situation.
In addition the bed was the hardest bed I've ever slept on. Do not recommend.

Great stay at a quiet and well-situated location for us to attend a wedding in HMB and then retreat to the peace of the house in Montara.

I really enjoyed my stay. This is a quiet, comfortable, clean, higher end guest room in a private home that is locked off with a private entrance. It is very private. The views of the ocean, facing west, made for spectacular sunset views. I would absolutely stay here again.

This was the perfect home base for our quick trip out to hike in the Redwoods. It was within easy driving distance of so many locations without the traffic and noise levels. It was amazing to wake up in the morning and look out onto the ocean from the deck. The room was perfect sized for the two of us and had everything we needed.

Small town feel
We are from a small town and that is what was nice about this property. This area is very quiet and beautiful. The only negative we could say is that this property is attached to the main house. You do have your own access however at night we could still hear the people that live in the house above us. We have stayed at various other properties and were quite surprised at the length of rules that we had to follow. One of the rules was that we had to be quiet after 9:00 pm however the people that were in the house above us were not quiet after 9:00. The property was accurately described so that was a plus. In the future we would not stay at a property that was attached to the house.
