The hotel feels like it has undergone a significant renovation over the last few years. Whether that's the case I don't actually know. It is very clean and well kept. The pool is of a decent size and depth. The prices at the bar are very reasonable. All cocktails were €8, and they were very good. We never stayed in the hotel for dinner, however, we ate lunch there a few times and it was also of a decent standard. The staff are as good as staff can be. Very helpful, kind and willing to go out of their way for you. Nothing is a problem. The rooms are pretty big with what looked like brand new patio doors, which were incredibly soundproof. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
My main gripe is the 'pool politics'. My wife, son and I arrived at the pool on a Saturday afternoon, only to find that there was no space or loungers available whatsoever. This was a big surprise as the days prior to this, the pool was relatively quiet. I then saw the people that were there were leaving via the car park and going straight to cars. Having spoken to a couple of different people, the vast majority of people around the pool were not residents at the hotel, and apparently pay to use the pool for the day. As a paying guest at the hotel, this was a bit annoying.
I personally find the small things matter. On our second day, I asked the staff to look at the water pressure coming from the overhead shower, as it was not good at all. The pressure from the hand-held shower head was extremely strong but the overhead showerhead trickled out. The staff at the reception apologised to me and said they would have a look. The pressure never improved and they never spoke to me about it again. I took that as, this is as good as it was going to get.
The only other thing, and this can be different for everyone, but I didn't find the mattress we slept on very comfortable. Oh, actually, one more thing, the description of the room said it had a bath, but it didn't.

The staff were amazing! Every single one of them, from the receptionist when I first arrived after being upset having been in a taxi for 1 hour and a half (the taxi took a group to Positano before taking me to the hotel, and then wanted to charge me 70€, and wouldn't take less than 60) to the man who fixed my bathtub (one of the reasons I booked this hotel was for a bathtub), to the kitchen staff who prepared decaf coffee for me, etc. etc. The staff members, every single one, were excellent. After the experience with the taxi, the staff were careful to explain how I could buy a bus ticket and where to find the stops.
The location. The booking.com location noted that it was close to the train station. I was looking for two things: inexpensive and close to the train station. The hotel was NOT close to the train station (more than a half-hour away), and I spent over 100€ on taxis. In a message before I arrived, I was told I could take a taxi or a bus to the hotel, but being in a city I hadn't been to before I wasn't comfortable depending on the bus situation. I learned it quickly, and it is easy, and I believe it should have been better explained to me beforehand. When you tell someone (as the message I got) take a taxi or a bus, it would have been important to know that there is a minimum 60€ difference in those options!!!! I lived in Rome for 6 years, and had an annual bus pass. I wasn't sure where to buy tickets for the bus, but the message should have said (unheard of in Rome), you can buy tickets on the bus. So to sum up: I was looking for a hotel near the train station, that is why I searched that filter, and inexpensive, as I am 74 living on a pension in Southern Italy. I didn't get a hotel near the train station and with the cost of the taxis, it wasn't inexpensive. I was visiting my well-to-do niece who was there with her financé for a wedding.
