The outlook, the kitchen and general comfort
Lack of shower tray which meant the bathroom floor flooded during a shower. A grass pathway instead of a hard pathway from the car park to the house entrance.

The rental is all about the view, which was stunning. The house is private, away from the cruise ships and chaos, yet close enough to amenities. The house was very clean/tidy and well appointed with what you will need. The hosts were friendly and easy to deal with. Again, this house is right beside the fjord and the view is the reason for us renting.
I was surprised at having to request/pay for linens. I am not sure that I actually got charged but the very fine print did say there would be a fee. The shower drain situation is odd. The bathroom floor is the cleanest ever, as a result! The living room furniture and all linens need to be replaced.

The location is fantastic, and is pretty easy to get to via the Flam-Aurland shuttle, although the terrain between the shuttle and the house is a bit rough so I would not recommend doing it this way if you have a disability or similar. The house itself is beautiful and a bit older too, it feels like it has great potential.
My phone was broken when staying here, so I tried to arrange easy entry with the host about 2 days in advance to ensure everything went smoothly. I did not hear from the host until hours before the stay commenced, so I was looking around Flam in case they fell through which was anxiety inducing.
Then, rather than simply providing me with the lockbox combination via messages, the host did it in person so that she could charge me extra for a towel and some bedsheets in person, which felt tacky. It was unclear which floor I was staying on, so I accidentally knocked on the door of some other tenants upstairs and interrupted their family dinner, as the host arrived a little later than our agreed upon time.
I then had to make the bed myself, and unmake it in the morning and ensure the towel & sheets were prepared in a bag for the host. The host also requested I sweep & mop the entire apartment, wipe down surfaces, do all the dishes, and various other cleaning tasks - I was only staying one night and leaving immediately the next morning!
It feels like they should just charge $100 more per booking and pay someone to clean & make up the house between each guest, and do away with all the bean counting, as the stringency of the instructions made me feel on edge for the night I stayed and I just went to bed without doing anything, so that I wasn't charged a cleaning fee on the back end, which it felt like they were looking for any excuse to charge.
Overall it is a shame that such a well located & beautiful property is managed so poorly - I haven't even mentioned the lack of homeliness, such as the plastic birthday-wrapping covering on the dining room table that makes the room feel haunted (I assume this is there so that the table doesn't need to be cleaned), and the lack of any basic supplies. If you just need a bed for a night, the place is fine, but I'd recommend spending a bit more on a nicer place in Flam honestly.
