We absolutely loved our stay at The Merchants House.
Breakfast was delicious every morning, and there is also a lovely little beach very close to the hotel where we spent our first day - such a nice and easy start to the holiday. Don’t forget to bring your snorkel!
One thing to keep in mind is that if you want to explore some of Corfu’s other beaches, most of them are at least around an hour’s drive away. But honestly, it is completely worth it. The drives were beautiful and we loved discovering different parts of the island.
The tavernas in Old Perithia were another highlight. The food was incredibly good, the portions were enormous, and we ended up having dinner in the village on both evenings when we didn’t go into Corfu Old Town.
And of course, a huge thank you to David and Marieke. They were so kind and attentive throughout our stay, checked in with us every day, gave us great local recommendations and even lent us a beach umbrella to take with us. On our last morning, because our flight was extremely early, Marieke even left some milk in the fridge so I could have my coffee before leaving. 🥹☕ Unfortunately, after barely two hours of sleep, I didn’t manage to make that coffee in the end - but the gesture was so thoughtful and really stayed with me.
Everything was wonderful. Thank you both so, so much for making our stay so special. We would happily come back.
As for the negatives - I wouldn’t really call them negatives, but there are a few small things worth mentioning.
During our last two nights, the guests staying on the floor above us were walking back and forth in the corridor until around 3 a.m., and unfortunately the sound travelled downstairs so clearly that it became almost impossible to sleep. I know that you already inform guests about noise, but perhaps it could be mentioned even more explicitly that footsteps and corridor noise can be heard very clearly on the floor below. I didn’t say anything at the time because I really didn’t want to bother you or come across as a difficult guest.
Also, the road up to Old Perithia is quite winding, with lots of bends, and driving it at night made us a little nervous at first. It is absolutely manageable if you drive carefully, and we had no problem at all with a normal car, but it is definitely something to be aware of, especially after dark. A small SUV might feel a little more comfortable for some drivers. 🚗
And secondly… adding Greek coffee to the breakfast menu would definitely not be a bad idea.:)

Very nice sorroundings
Very quiet evenings
Very nice hosts
The house is extremely well preserved and in style refurbished
Pretty remote on the mountain, but one can assume that before booking; definitely need a car, but the road is not that narrow so easy access
The noise from the upper floor pretty disturbing at night (the apartment above was occupied at 3 AM and we heard pretty much everything, especially the steps).

Stunningly restored building in the most beautiful place. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and included everything we could possibly need. The owners were so welcoming and served us the most delicious breakfast outdoors on the terrace. Definitely our favourite place we stayed in Corfu.

The hosts David and Marieke were fantastic, it felt more like we were staying in their home rather than their hotel. The breakfasts were really special, fantastic setting outside on a stone terrace and a delicious choice of locally sourced or home-made foods.
Our suite was very comfortable with a lounge, separate bedroom and bathroom. David and Marieke were always willing to make recommendations for beaches and activities as well as sharing their knowledge of the history of the village. We were also very grateful to be able to borrow beach towels and a beach umbrella for our days on the beach.
