The location is perfect, right in the centre of Saint Martin de Ré. We loved the apartment itself, it gave a really lovely authentic french vibe and the views were incredible of the port.
On the whole the apartment was really good, the lounge in particular is a winner with high ceilings and loads of light. The surrounding area is so quiet especially in the mornings which is lovely to wake up to.
The kitchen is basic but definitely usable and fine. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is nice and clean.
It's a real shame but the check in process was really disappointing. We were given a contact number for the women who runs the apartment. I messaged her 5 hours, 3 hours and 15mins before arriving to keep her updated on our arrival time as we were getting there later in the evening (around 9pm), yet when we arrived she was no where to be seen. I contacted her and ended being passed to a gentlemen who was helpful but then had to wait for him to come and let us into the apartment.
On arrival to the apartment, the front door was broken and the main handle fell out. The door still locked and was quite secure but it wasn't a very good first impression.
There was no welcome book to let us know wifi codes, arrival or departure information or anything to do with the local area at all which would have been helpful as we'd never been before and would have been nice to hear some recommendations which is quite normal for other properties we've stayed in before.
Some of the power outlets in the property didn't work, not a deal breaker but a bit annoying when trying to find somewhere to plug things in and they just didn't work properly.
The stairs up to the bedroom in the lounge are quite tight and steep so I can be difficult to get up with bags and for any older guests I really wouldn't advise using them.
The biggest disappointment was the parking, although it was really secure, the parking itself is a good 4-5mins walk away from the apartment in an underground car park. The parking space is also very tight, we own a medium size SUV and you couldn't fit anything larger in the space. We presumed when booking it would be close enough to unload close to the apartment as we had quite a few bags and on check out you cannot get the car down to the apartment due to bollards that block the road in normal daytime hours so you have to drag whatever bags you have all the way back to the car.

Arrival easy & hosts very accommodating.Location & general apartment accommodation were great.
Couple of small things only…Could have done with a brief written guide at the property explain how to access the internet, use the TV, local emergency numbers, local recommendations etc. That said was easy to contact the managing hosts who responded swiftly & with a good local & property knowledge!
Whilst the property is well finished & furnished , it is nearing the point where some re-decoration & maintenance attention is required.

L’emplacement et la vue imprenable sur le Port.
Un équipement hors d’âge ou mal entretenu (Frigo qui part en morceaux, table de cuisson dont l’affichage est illisible, 3 lampes sur pied dont les prises électriques ne fonctionnent pas, 4 ampoules (différentes) sur les 8 possible de la suspension principale du salon …
Table haute du salon instable, trop petite pour 4 personnes.
Des volets intérieurs qui ne ferment plus.
Aucune réponse des propriétaires à nos mails qui avaient oublié de prévenir de notre arrivée la femme de ménage : près de 3 heures de retard pour la remise des clés initialement prévue au plus tard à 16h00 …
