Langridge Lodge, a clean and quiet corner of Alpine, with every charming amenity within walking distance!

Langridge Lodge, Alpine, is a quiet, attractive studio with a queen size bed and every convenience in the far blue mountains of West Texas and the beautiful little town of Alpine.  We are located in the Davis Mountains, west of Marathon's Glass Mountains, part of the great Rocky Mountain massif extending west and north into New Mexico and Colorado.  Langridge Lodge is located at the junction of Highway 90 as you come in off Highway 67 from Interstate 10, on the very corner Highway 118 which heads down south to the Big Bend.  

The  fully-equipped  kitchen is ready if you wish to cook on site, store food /drinks in the refrigerator, help yourself to coffee, tea, hot cocoa, etc.  We launder all linens, rugs, etc. with organic soap, and then air them outside in the sun.  We clean the room with organic citrus cleaner:  we use no chemicals on the property.  

Big cottonwoods, elms, mesquites and pecan trees are present in abundance;  butterflies are present in colorful array on early blossoms; honeybees, hummingbirds and mockingbirds and four varieties of doves abound.  We often see deer on the property, and a huge owl lives nearby  -  we hear him in the evenings and early mornings.  Most days are bright and warm, but nights and mornings are cool:  perfect weather. 

Langridge Lodge is about one hour from Big Bend National Park, about  1 and 1/2 hours down the road (Hwy. 118).  Parking is available and abundant on the property. 

Alpine's fine little bookshop is within walking distance; just behind it on the same street is Cedar Coffee,  where a good cup of hipster coffee  may be had.  Just around the corner on Holland is Vise Coffee, which features excellent Big Bend Coffee Roasters coffee and often, music from local musicians.  Local artists (some nationally known) exhibit in Alpine's galleries and unique locally-owned shops, most within walking distance from each other and from Langridge Lodge. 

An array of good restaurants and street venders offers a variety of fresh interesting food in Alpine.   Blue Water Natural Foods, just south of town on Hwy. 118, is an organic-foods grocery, to supply yours needs, along with Leow's,   a well-supplied busy and sizeable grocery store.  Alpine has numerous historic venues for  cocktails and  conversation, and our Museum of the Big Bend is a pleasant four-block walk up Hancock Hill from our Lodge - you can locate the old metal desk which sports a guest book signed by visitors from all over the world.  Big Bend Saddlery makes authentic cowboy gear and ships highest-quality custom leather goods and clothing worldwide.  The famous Spradley cowboy hats available here are still made next door to the Saddlery, on antique French machinery dating from the 1800's.

In Marfa (where you can see the historic Paisano Hotel (be sure to walk all the way to the back to see the beautiful open-air sheltered swimming pool), you will see the restored Court House and much more, with many good restaurants, bistros and coffee spots, a charming local museum, numerous art galleries and excellent high-end shopping.  Fort Davis and Marathon are twenty-five scenic minutes from Alpine, toward the north and east.  Big Bend National Park features hikes for every level of effort, famously photogenic and the home of its own particular variety of bluebonnets, along with countless other wildflowers.

The proceeds from our studio help to support an orphanage and school in Pakistan, where child victims of religious violence find refuge, safety and schooling from a dedicated group of hardy volunteers.  Our contribution helps to pay for buildings, food and clothing, books, supplies, and medicines.
