Royal Hotel

the breakfast was good, lots of choice of cereal, teas etc, even offering porridge! lots of hot water. sink big enough to wash my hair in. 'comfortable' chairs in the room. Dinners were delicious, tried the option of the Tai food and liked it.

There was no light over the table and 'comfy' chairs, so couldn't sit there aftr dark. no light near the wardrobe. No coat hooks or hooks in bathroom. there were cups not mugs in the room and the fingers of coffee make enough for a mug. The carvery was a bit chaotic; the meat was fine, the stuffing was hopeless, the roast potatoes were not cooked, the sliced potatoes were at the wrong end as was the gravy, the wrong impliments were in the veg. dishes.

The staff were attentive,polite,friendly and knowledgable. The evening meal was served with generous portions and value for money. The hotel downstairs was well presented with lovely decor.

The previous occupants had a dog in the room that we stayed in and the carpet was covered in dog hair and stains. In the morning,there wasn’t any hot water so unable to shower. Boiled the kettle for a wash! Reception started at 9 o’clock and when we were able to report it, we were told they’d call someone to fix it, but we were checking out after an overnight stay. No real apology given.

We loved the decor of the downstairs. The meal we had in the restaurant was delicious and a very generous portion. Our room was a good size for a superior room. It was only a very short walk to either the seafront or the town centre.

We felt that our room was very basic compared to the decor downstairs. The carpets in the corridors were quite stained and there was an unpleasant smell in them aswell. We were overall pleased with the breakfast choice apart from there weren't the usual choice of fruit and yoghurt, croissants and pastries we have come to expect as part of a hotel breakfast. We also felt sorry for the 2 ladies who were trying to do everything on the afternoon we arrived. They were obviously short staffed. We reported our bed side lights weren't working and they weren't sorted at all during our stay.

It was a great location.

The room was dated , we had a hole in the ceiling where the light had been changed and the hole hadn’t been plastered up !! The shower doors didn’t fit together when you had a shower so the water went on the floor . We didn’t enjoy the breakfast so we ended up eating some we’re else for breakfast.
