The first impression of the reception area
We specifically booked this hotel because it offered a bar and a restaurant which was highly rated. We had a very long drive before getting there and looked forward to a relaxing drink and then a good dinner. We booked the superior double room but were shocked to find that there was no window in the room. We explained to the staff that I am autistic and claustrophobic and they pointed out that there was a skylight 12 ft high in the ceiling which of course you could not see out of. We requested a different room with a window and were assured that the room was the same level. Although the room had a window it was much smaller and was the deluxe level room not superior. I was told I could not be refunded the difference in price because I had changed 'on the day'! We were then told that the bar was closed until 7.30 and that we could find a bar locally. We then booked a table for dinner and unpacked in our room. When we were leaving to find a nearby bar we were informed that the restaurant was closed and we were told we could walk 10 minutes to another restaurant! We are both in our mid 70's and the outside temperature was still 41 degrees - walking 10 minutes to find dinner was not what we expected to have to do, All in all a very disappointing visit.
