We stayed at Casa Joaquim for 11 days and really enjoyed the peaceful setting. The house is spacious, clean and surrounded by beautiful countryside, making it a lovely place to switch off and relax. The beds were particularly comfortable, with nice firm mattresses.
The owners are local and very friendly. They gave us a warm welcome and even invited us to pick fresh figs from their trees, which was a lovely touch.
The house is well equipped with the basics for your stay, including towels and bed linen, hand soap and washing-up liquid for dishes. There were also two dishwasher tablets and some toilet paper provided to get us started. After that, you’ll need to bring your own dishwasher tablets, toilet paper and bin bags, so it’s worth picking these up before you arrive.
Communication could have been better. Interhome were slow to respond to messages and the invoice we received contained incorrect information regarding the tourist tax. When we raised this, unfortunately there was no acknowledgement of the error and we were referred to the owners instead. The owners themselves were also difficult to reach by text or email, as was their niece/granddaughter (we weren't quite sure of the relationship).
There is an information book in the house, but it would benefit from a few additional instructions, particularly regarding the satellite TV and where to find the street garbage and recycling bins. The TV isn't a smart TV, and the satellite channels are fairly limited, so if being able to stream your usual programmes is important to you, it would be worth bringing a smart TV adapter.
On one occasion, the owner's son arrived at the property without prior notice to carry out pool maintenance. Also, dogs would regularly appear around the pool area in the mornings and evenings without their owners. This was a little concerning for us as we have a young child.
The kitchen has the essentials, but we felt it would benefit from a few additions, such as oven gloves, placemats or trivets for hot dishes, and a few more pans for cooking.
These points aren't intended as criticisms of the house itself, but rather as things we think are useful for future guests to know before booking.
