Looking to stay in your grandmother’s cluttered, dusty house full of unnecessary tchotchkes and trinkets? Well, this is the place. While the owner is delightful, she frets over the unnecessary instead of what a true renter would focus on...like cleaning the filthy bathroom toilets and floors, or providing clear shelf space for guests to place items on. Sorry, but I don’t need rattling old tea plates in the bedroom, perfume diffusers turned to alcohol, etc., cluttering every possible space. Further, the owner’s personal items should be locked and stored not left out as if she quickly exited her live-in home to make a quick buck on a renter. The website photos are beyond deceiving. This Cotswold cottage could overall be a good rental, but before it’s ‘let’ it’s in need of a proper cleaning and a good painting of walls/floorboards (and steam clean the now blackened cream-colored stairway carpet). Being an innkeeper or a professional leasing agent requires skill and knowledge, not just a makeshift ad on a website for “Luxury accommodations” of which it clearly is not! It needs a rescue plan that begins with garbage bag to toss all the allergy-inducing junk. The only positive is the garden which of course can’t be used in the off-season. The high quality white sheets on the beds was stunning surprise and a good start. Now perhaps the owner might go from there...

Barnsley Cottage is a beautiful house in a brilliant location. The house is picturesque, in traditional Cotswold stone and in a pretty village with a lovely pub within a couple of minutes walk. There are good amenities within a 10 minute drive in Cirencester. We were a multigenerational; family coming together to celebrate an early Christmas together. The space and layout were excellent - a large kitchen table to eat around, 2 living spaces meaning the children had somewhere to play / watch TV, a spacious and comfortable lounge with 3 decent sofas so we could all sit together easily. The bedrooms and bathrooms are as described and again, the layout was excellent. Beds were comfortable and the house warm and cosy with additional heaters supplied, where needed. We made use of the fire, which was perfect, and straightforward with additional logs being supplied. It was so appreciated that the house had been decorated for Christmas as was the offer of early check in/late check out. On the downside, we felt the cottage was very cluttered and there were a lot of personal belongings left throughout the house, which we wouldn't expect from a holiday let. It felt as though we were staying in someone's house, who had vacated for our stay, rather than a professional let. As a result of the sheer volume of clutter, belongings and 'stuff' in every room it made the place feel less clean than it may have done if it were cleared and minimised. I need to point out that important areas like bedding, bathrooms and kitchen were clean, but more generally the house felt dusty/not well looked after. There was a big stain on one bedroom floor, covered with a portion of carpet, which should be attended to. The family bathroom could do with some improvements to smarten it up (sealant/grout/shower area) and my suggestion would just be to clear the clutter, have a really good sort out and present it more akin to a professional holiday let, rather than family home. We are owner / holiday letters ourselves and keep all our belongings in locked cupboards / unused, locked rooms to counteract this. The above feedback did not detract from what was a really, really super stay with a very welcoming, accommodating and helpful owner. We hope that they may take on board the feedback and look at these areas to improve things even further. It was a 5* stay, let down by these factors. I still would not hesitate to recommend the house to others wishing to stay in this area.

It was a really nice place to meet up & stay (would have been even nicer if the weather had been kinder! - must be lovely in the summer to use the garden). Particularly well set up for young kids - my grandkids loved the toys in the Snug and the cot, high chair etc were all set up. A couple of very minor suggestions for improvement: a good selection of kitchen knives but not a decent sharp one amongst them (common to most cottages I've stayed in)! Also some instructions for operating the TVs would have been useful: there's a TV switch at the top of the stairs which was off so no reception until I messaged the owner & found it had to be on & Now TV is not familiar to everyone - I never managed to get the main terrestrial channels. But these are very minor quibbles which didn't spoil a very enjoyable stay.

We assembled three generations of our family (plus spouses and partners) for a long-awaited get together. We’d come from all over the UK and abroad, so it had to be special. Barnsley Cottage was the perfect location and exactly as we’d hoped - cosy but spacious, with lots of areas for us to enjoy being in each other’s company and (very importantly) to share some great meals that we cooked and enjoyed together. The rooms were lovely, the beds very comfortable and it felt like home from home. We were very lucky with the weather (the warmest and sunniest October for a long time) which allowed us to walk the nearby lanes and fields, or just sit in the wonderful gardens with a glass of wine (well, lots of glasses…). We hadn’t expected such lovely weather and if it had rained the lounge, the snug and the big kitchen would have been plenty for us. The cottage had everything we needed and more. The pub less than a minute’s walk away is a tremendous plus, in any weather. We loved it all and it has given us many happy memories to cherish until we can get everyone there again as soon as possible. Thank you so much!

Stunning house with beautiful gardens. There were only six of us celebrating a 70th birthday therefore we didn’t use all the house. Could not believe the lovely welcome basket Prosecco and flowers that were waiting for us. We cooked steaks and a lovely chicken dish plus breakfast each morning. There was so much equipment there for our use. Would definitely recommend this beautiful cottage

We were attending a wedding locally and decided to stay the full week to explore this part of the Cotswolds. Barnsley Cottage fully lived up to our expectations; beds very comfortable, great showers and plenty of space for everyone. Great location just a few miles from Cirencester town and park, both worth visits. Easy access to beautiful walks from the cottage meant happy dogs too! Thanks to the host Annabel for her local knowledge and efficiency. Hopefully we’ll return one day!
