City of Sandpoint Permit #: PTH21-0069 THE TOWN: HISTORY: Long before Sandpoint officially became a city in 1907, it was part of the home of the Kalispel Tribe of Native Americans. Their ancestral lands extended across all of Priest and Pend Oreille Lakes, up the Pend Oreille River into Canada, and as far east as Montana. Northern Pacific Railroad (NPR) surveyors arrived in the area in 1880, attracting a few permanent settlers. That same year, a general store opened in what was then called Pend Oreille, and a little settlement sprouted up on the east side of Sand Creek opposite the present Sandpoint City site. By 1882, Northern Pacific began building the stretch of railroad that ran between Montana and the tiny community of Pend Oreille. The settlement grew slowly over the next decade, during which time its name was changed to Sandpoint. One of only a few nationwide, the NPR depot is still operational and in active use today. Recognized for its physical and design integrity, the depot station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Having suffered three fires in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, the depot station is the last remaining structure of the original town. Sandpoint is the only Idaho community with an Amtrak station. "The Empire Builder" train travels between Chicago and the Pacific Northwest, taking passengers on an exciting adventure through majestic wilderness, following the footsteps of the early American pioneers, Lewis and Clark! The mesmerizing, whimsical sounds of this historic railway are still enjoyed by residents and tourists today. TODAY: Sandpoint was recently awarded the title of “America’s Most Beautiful Small Town” in a contest sponsored by USA Today and Rand McNally! Nestled in a land of unforgettable natural beauty, situated between three mountain ranges and on exquisite Lake Pend Oreille (POND-ə-RAY), Sandpoint is a visitor-friendly and artsy community that offers a wide variety of outdoor recreation plus arts and cultural events happening year-round. Rented the cottage for overflow from our daughters wedding. The location was perfect for us and the cottage was new, very cute, and well appointed! Would recommend to anyone coming to Sandpoint, located nicely in-between Schweitzer as well as the downtown area.

Stunning cottage! Honestly felt like we were staying with close family. Everything they could think of to make the home feel modern, cozy and convenient was provided. Probably the nicest we have stayed in with a wonderful kitchen, cozy soft beds, pillows and linens and everything you could possibly need throughout your stay. The area is a little industrial but still felt very safe, quiet and close to everything we needed. Monica was such a pleasure to communicate with and created the most welcoming information package and gift basket. We had a family of 4, made the drive up from Alberta, Canada and enjoyed our first visit to Sandpoint. Silverwood theme park was less than 30 minutes away, a nice drive.

Family camping at Riley Creek nearby and my Aunt (72), Cousin (52), and myself, (55) stayed at this cottage instead of a tent 🙂 This place was beautiful. Comfortable beds, A/C worked great in 100 degrees, very clean, great amenities down to beach bags/towels/kids beach toys, well stocked kitchen and bathroom, and was super cute! Hosts thought of everything to make your stay great! While we commuted every day and spent most our time at the campground, am very familiar with area, so cottage is very well located...basically a mile to everything...and if you dont know Sandpoint, such a cute town with tons of summer stuff to do for adults and families. Limited parking which is fully disclosed, suggestion to mark parking space in front of unit. I have done several VRBO rentals and this one was top notch!

We came from Canada for a short visit to explore Sandpoint and take the kids to Silverwood. The cottage was an excellent choice - it was clean, extremely comfortable and close to everything we wanted to explore. Monica was extremely helpful and more than happy to answer any questions. All of the information you would ever need was provided before arriving and everything was exactly as pictured and discussed in the listing. We will definitely be back to stay - the family has plans to return in the winter for a visit to the ski resort. Thanks for a wonderful mini getaway!

New; super clean; well appointed; great having a hose out front to wash off mountain bikes; Monica so easy to work with. But there are train tracks 1/4 mile away and even with background white noise machines, I still heard the trains during the night ( we were aware of tracks nearby before booking). Also the exterior hvac unit, just outside the master bedroom makes a constant humming, audible noise
