About this cabin rental
Located in West Pennington, this charming cabin for $250 per night is a great option for your next break. Enjoy a quiet location close to town and on paved road. This property sits directly in between the towns of Hill City and Keystone! Have a cup of coffee on the front porch and watch the famous 1880's train roll past you a on its way to Keystone. Come evening have a seat and enjoy the wildlife in the meadow directly below you. Easily run into Hill City or Keystone for dinner or groceries or stay home and grill. A short car ride gets you to all of the major attractions including Mt Rushmore (20 minutes) & Crazy Horse (16 minutes) or go the other direction to Deerfield Lake for fishing and boating. The driveway is a little steep and I have had a few guests have concerns about riding motorcycles up and down. Once up the hill there is ample room to turn around a vehicle but I would recommend not taking your trailer to the top. If you do you will most likely be backing it down. There is however a nice flat spot at the bottom of the hill to park a trailer off the road in a safe location. This Cabin is located in the middle of all the major attractions most of them being less than 30 minutes away. If outdoor activity is more your style. There are 3 different lakes within 25 minutes or less, not to mention the the Mickelson Trail just a few minutes away with a trailhead in Hill City. Giving you access to 107 miles of biking and walking. Hundreds of miles of ATV trails are surrounding this area. Less than a four mile drive gets you to ATV rentals and access to Horse back riding. We can't wait to share our place with you and hope you fall in love with it like we have.

We stayed so we’d be close to Mt Rushmore for a visit but still have some quiet family time away from the tourist areas. This cabin was great! It had space, was very tidy and had all the amenities of home.

This property was perfect for our "Cousin's Weekend" in the beautiful Black Hills! Everything you could want to do is just a short drive away, yet the cabin is remote enough that you still feel like you are getting away from it all. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. We mostly enjoyed the spacious living area (2 living rooms) and the large kitchen and dining space. Better than a hotel, by far!

My family of 5 stayed here for our week of exploring the Black Hills area. The home was very clean, spacious and in a great location to everything we wanted to see. I highly recommend the Whistle Stop. We would definitely stay here again!!

This was a great experience, situated near many of the Black Hills attractions. The house was the perfect size for our family of nine. The kids could play outside and teens could spread out comfortably. The house is near the 1880 Train track so we got to see and hear the train pass. It was just far enough away so that it was charming and not obnoxious. The host was very responsive and fabulous to work with.

The property we stayed at was excellent and fit our needs perfectly. The house was really nice. We had 4 children with us ages 9 to 12, so would have been nice if the yard was bigger, as the boys wanted to play ball. But they still found plenty to do. The driveway probably needs a little repair. Wouldn't want to navigate it in the winter time. All in all this property was great.

We loved this location. Close to everything we wanted to do! Grandkids loved having the train going by daily. Everything in the house was perfect for us. We even played games in the evening and had smores outside. Thank you for everything!!

We loved the location of this property. It was centralized to all the things to do in the Black Hills. The town of Hill City had everything we needed (groceries, gas, and even a church of our faith) and it was all within about 10 mins from the house. The view is great! We watched the train go past twice, had turkeys in the front yard, and saw a deer in the field across the road. There was a lot of space for our 3 boys to spread out to read, do a puzzle, or play. There isn't much room outside for them to play, but the space inside was great. The only draw backs was one of the transition pieces on the floor between the dining room and kitchen had a nail sticking up and I ruined 2 pairs of socks with it. We would hammer it down and it was back up within a few hours. Also, when we got there the heater was broken. We called Brandon and went through a few things to try to fix it, but was unable to do so. He was very kind and apologetic. Unfortunately, the entire week we were there he could not find anybody to come fix it, but he did have a little gas fireplace and an electric fireplace in there and between the 2 we were able to keep the house warm.

The property was just as it was advertised! Large spacious living areas, kitchen, bedrooms and baths. The house was very clean and the kitchen well equipped. We enjoyed sitting on the porch every evening. The driveway is steep but presented no problems in getting in or out. We would rent this property again!
Our only suggestion would be to include instructions on how to get to the property from either Keystone or Hill City. We had the physical
address but it was confusing to get to since cell service in the area is very spotty.

Our party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our granddaughters loved waving at the passengers on the 1880 train. We had more than ample room for all of us to sprawl out without feeling like we were crowded. Every question/problem before we arrived was answered/solved very promptly. Thank you Brandon for being so patient with me! We thoroughly recommend this property for your stay in the Black Hills. Location is great for sightseeing as the location is centrally located.

We had a great stay. The house has lots of space so it made it easy to spread out and have plenty of space for all. Very clean and comfortable. We loved sitting on the deck viewing the open field and 1880 train as it passed by.

This was the perfect home for our getaway. We (family of 4) traveled with another family (of 3) and the space was plenty & the location couldn't have been better. I also really appreciated that the list of items to be done upon checkout wasn't that extensive. The cabin is so well maintained, the host checked in to make sure things were going well, everything worked & the space was so peaceful. The kind of place we can't wait to rent again!

The location was perfect- centrally located to everything we wanted to do. We love that it was away from the hustle and bustle; but still close to Hill City and Keystone. The house was spacious with plenty of room for us and out three teenagers. They loved playing the Apples to Apples game! We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Location was perfect and great for kids with exception of cliff. Neighborhood dogs were intrusive, unfriendly, and left their droppings in the yard. Floor divider strips were loose in several areas and nails were exposed. We covered them to keep socks from being ripped. All these are typical of homes, so we were not inconvenienced. We had a great stay, the cabin is great for a family, and we will plan to return.

Great location!
Great location. Easy to get to all the landmarks and tourist attractions in the area. Really beautiful, it was nice to relax around a fire and look out into a valley at the wildlife.

Great week at Whistle Stop
Location was close to both Hill City and Keystone which gives you great access to the whole area. The cabin has everything you need..great kitchen and plenty of room to spread out. The owner is responsive and easy yo reach

Roomy and comfortable home...one caveat.
Perfect location, roomy and comfortable. If you plan on bringing a motorcycle, be aware the driveway is very steep with loose rocks. 4 wheelers and other UTV's would be fine but not the two wheelers.

Enjoyed
Check in was very easy, we found the home clean, roomy, and equiped with all the necessities needed to cook, wash dishes and clothing. The owner reached out mid-stay to verify if all was well and if anything was needed. The property is located a short drive to Hill City where a small grocery store is, having all the basics. An old train, which travels from Hill City to Keystone passes near the property blowing it's whistle and blowing black smoke high into the air. Finally, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse memorials are a short drive with Deadwood and Sturgis being your furthest drive of about an hour.

We had a wonderful time! The cabin was very nice. It's in the middle of everything we wanted to see so we didn't have a long drive to any location. Comfortable beds, plenty of towels and kitchen items. Thanks for letting us rent your cabin.

Great place with a great location! Quiet neighborhood in the country. The house was roomy for 7 of us, with large family areas and decent size bedrooms. Very clean and nice furniture. Great place to visit the black hills, between Hill City and Keystone- close to many attractions.

My only negative for this property is that the listing should specify the driveway. It is up a steep incline, and if your pulling a trailer or boat, it definitely does not work. We were pulling a trailer with a side-by-side and a 4-wheeler, we ended up down the road and asked a homeowner in the area if we could park the trailer in their property (and then compensated them for their kindness when we left), They should include that in the property description, and also a picture of the driveway would have helped us and our decision). Otherwise, it was a great property in a beautiful area.
