Zuni Tranquillo is a newly redecorated concept design retreat located just minutes from the beach and downtown of Ventura and just a short drive from Ojai, its hot springs, and Santa Barbara. A 15-minute ride down a beautiful bike path takes you to the sea and the stunning Seaside Wilderness Park where you’ll find hiking trails and coastal views. Zuni Tranquillo is a lush, aquatic oasis in balmy Ventura that invites you to let go of all your worldly concerns and be tranquillo. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by a lush, verdant front garden complete with a beautiful Spanish-style fountain, just one of the calming water features in this suburban sanctuary that invite you to leave your worries at the door and enter a space and state of tranquillo. When you step across the threshold you’ll find yourself in a magical oasis lovingly curated with pieces from the host’s personal collection. Art and objects that reflect her passion for world travel and global culture and design. Pieces that invite you to take a journey to faraway lands in your imagination. The location is a single-story, ranch-style home with a large pool in a sunny, private back garden. The pool, heated by solar panels**, is perfect for swimming laps or just floating in the sun. Lounge chairs surrounded by greenery will make you feel like you’re living in a private, sun-drenched spa created just for you. The home features a large open-plan living room/dining room with beautiful wood floors, sumptuous textiles and pillows, and a cozy fireplace. Everywhere you look you’ll find art and furnishings made by talented craftspeople from all across the globe--including Cuba, Morocco, Africa and Mexico. Each piece has a story to tell. The large kitchen will inspire your culinary creativity and its connection to the dining room allows for Italian style cooking--with good wine, animated conversation, and communal joy flowing while you prepare meals. You can also cook your favorite meal with our large gas BBQ in the backyard. The location has three full bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master offers garden access and a King bed and has an ensuite with a shower. The second bedroom has a Queen bed and is light and airy and full of cozy, inviting natural materials and eclectic global art pieces. The third bedroom has a queen bed and is decorated in clean, classic American style. All bedrooms feature organic cotton linens. The second shared bathroom features a tub and shower. The bathrooms are both newly renovated decorated and artfully appointed with Turkish cotton towels and all-natural bath products. As a bonus room, you’ll find an office decorated with mid-century modern pieces including a comfortable Full-size pullout couch. Lovingly curated with globally sourced art and artifacts from the host’s personal collection, collected over decades of adventures, the location is a celebration of world travel and a passion for curious exploration. Travels to North Africa, Cuba, and Morocco were especially inspiring as you’ll see in the home’s design details. Each element in the space has a story to tell, inspiring curiosity, creativity, connection, and conversation. We try to keep our beloved Zuni updated and in good conditions therefore some of the furniture you see on the listed pictures might be different during your stay if damaged from the previous guest, we apologize in advance but we want you to have the best experience. The property has three security cameras installed for safety purposes in common areas (main entry, garage and backyard - no cameras inside the house) that are not to be fiddled with for any reason. Any damage or adjustment cased by the guest will be repaired immediately and billed directly to the guest. **the solar panels are highly performing during the warmer season and less during the colder season due to shorter days and quite cold nights.

The house is very nice and well maintained. The decor is fun and eclectic. The house is well provisioned with a lot of extras you won't find in most VRBO's. One thing, this area of Ventura is not as nice as other areas. The house itself felt safe and there were no issues, but the adjacent main street is a little sketchy, and the local Von's is almost somewhere that I would recommend that you avoid. Don't let this sway you to not choose the house though - just be aware. The house is very close to the nicer part of town, and you would have no issue driving a little further to avoid the unsavory parts.

We went to Ventura/Ojai to celebrate my friend's 70th birthday. Zuni was the perfect place to have a girl's weekend. The home was terrific, decor was fabulous. We wanted a place that had a kitchen big enough to cook in, the Zuni kitchen was well-equipped and suited our needs perfectly. The beds were comfortable and everything was in great.
Our hosts made our stay wonderful!

Our son lives in LA, our daughter lives in NY and we live in PA. We booked this house as a meeting point for all of us to enjoy a vacation together. The house is awesome. We didn’t get to use the pool as much as we would have liked, because even in July, it was chilly. We cooked on the grill and really enjoyed the house. We took several day trips. Twice to Santa Barbara. Once to Ojai where we visited the Ojai Olive Oil Company and the Old Creek Ranch and Winery. Both were beautiful and the olive oils/vinegars and the wines were delicious. I would highly recommend this VRBO to anyone.

We were on vacation in CA when our plans were forced to change at the last minute due to natural disasters and issues with previous lodging. We booked based solely on availability, the pictures, and a prayer that things would work out. This house was exactly as promised. Large enough for 2 teens and us to work and relax. An hour from LA for hiking and museums, less than 30 minutes to Ojai, and other cute towns and plenty of trails and beach. The pool was too chilly for us but was really nice to lay around. Nice coffee shop walking distance, but otherwise in slightly industrial area. The kitchen had lots of room and all the things needed to cook. Loved the coffee maker too. The hosts were responsive and helpful.

Perfect get away
It didn't have A/C unit(They did had some individual in the closets for us to use, We leave in TN so we are use to have A/C unit all the time😊)but other than that it was, the perfect get away we love and cleanness was perfect it equipped for our get away.

My friends and I agreed that Zuni Tranquillo was the nicest VRBO we've ever stayed in. Best VRBO experience to date
My friends and I agreed that Zuni Tranquillo was the nicest VRBO we've ever stayed in. We are a local family who were looking to rent a home to do something special for our boy who was turning 16. After we booked and paid we were presented with a secondary contract that had to be signed prior to being admitted entry. This contract stated only the five people in our immediate family who were listed on the original agreement would be allowed in the home. No exceptions at any time - guests not allowed whatsoever. This was a first for us as we have rented many homes across all sites. We immediately contacted the owners, explaining that we had family coming in from out of town to visit and celebrate our child but not sleep over. We explained that this was our sole reason for renting the home and that we would want the secondary contract amended to state that we could be permitted to have our out of town family members visit during the day. When the owners refused to be flexible in this regard we told them that we should probably just cancel this booking and choose another home that would be more suitable to our need. The owners said they would be unwilling to refund us any portion of our money paid and reiterated that we would need to sign their contract in order to get the keys to the house. We contacted VRBO to see if they could intervene and either speak to the owners on our behalf, or help us get into another rental. They were sympathetic, but ultimately said they would be unable to get the owners to flex, or get us into something else.
This really put us in a tough place as a weekend at this home set us back thousands and all plans were in place. Difficult to walk away from a total loss over rules that were only introduced after all costs had been paid.
Ultimately we decided we had to take the risk and go about our weekend as planned. We were quiet, respectful and clean. Upon vacating we received a request from the owners for an additional $700 to be paid - citing damage that wasn’t caused by us and chastising for violating the secondary contract by having visitors. We moved many items as we had a baby (not child friendly whatsoever) and the cleaning crew came while putting it back in place but started immed.
If you are looking for a home that will permit guests this one won’t be it. If you value your privacy, don’t expect to find that here. Kids? Not here. We have a long history of perfect reviews through VRBO and others and suddenly we are inconsiderate, breaking items and messy enough that they need 2 cleanings? Awful.

Thoughtful cute bungalow
Cosy bungalow at the north end of Ventura in a mixed residential/ industrial area . The host communicates well and small details have been thought of. - this is a very cared for property, However, it is very small and two bathrooms tiny. There was no sofa but four chairs, four sun loungers and four seats outside and a two person half sized dish washer. The bathrooms and kitchen are tired and fresh paint and rugs don’t hide that. My young adult daughters also found the security cameras at the front door and overlooking the pool (and in the garage) deeply perturbing.. We've normally stayed in Ojai at this price point - it’s a sweet property but, in my view, overpriced.

Place was clean and beds were comfy
Was there for work so pretty much just there at night for a few hours, so unfortunately we didn’t get to take full advantage of all the amenities. How’s was very clean and had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable.
Make sure to get nest pods and not k-cups like we did, made mornings a little rough, but some coffe joints near by.
