The quietness of the location
The road up to the cottage was steep and as I was hiking it was a,

Great location, beautiful views and lovely 30 mins walk into Ambleside. Everything you need in terms of a self service cottage. Having the rooms downstairs means they are cool during the warmer months which is ideal. Lovely to wake up to highland coos every morning.
No complaints other than the automated arrival instructions from the accommodation provider - this really needs updating. Especially as others have picked up on it too as can see from other reviews. Luckily we researched this beforehand using Google street view to find the exact location. But for future guests please note that the road you drive up is called "the struggle", and the sign is for "kirkstone bed and breakfast" (not "Cumbrian cottages" as it says on the instructions)

The cottage was cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed. Amazing views of the mountains and surrounding countryside. The location was good for accessing the lakes and we loved waking up to the sheep and highland cattle. We really enjoyed our time away and were very grateful for the peace and quiet all around.
The single room was a lot smaller than we were expecting - you can only just walk around the side and end of the bed. That said, it was very comfortable.
The directions were good until the very end - the sign on the slate wall is not for Cumbrian Cottages, it was for another provider. So we drove all the way down and back up The Struggle to make sure we had the right place which was a bit frustrating at the end of a long journey there.
Also, I tried to contact the hosts via the messaging service on Booking.com a few times before we checked in as I had a query - my messages were not acknowledged. Likewise I tried calling the hosts on the number provided but could not get an answer and there was no answerphone.
