Lovely pub, beautiful location, staff were lovely (if not always super efficient). Food was some of the nicest in the village (alongside Bistro Hebog next door which was a bit fancier). Manager was very accommodating when we asked for a prompt/early breakfast on our last day which was helpful as breakfast doesn't begin until 8am. Beds were comfy, decor in the bedroom area was nice (but not the bathroom). Kettle in the room. Nice to have a self-contained family room where the children weren't in the same space as us - but the room was really small overall.

We had a family room which was tiny with no storage space and no drying space, there wasn't even a hook or rail for a towel in the bathroom, not even the hand towel. So everything - all four of our wet towels and all of our wet and muddy hiking gear had to be draped around the room, on whatever we could find - the doors, the TV, end of the bunk bed, radiators etc. We asked if there was a drying room for our wet and muddy hiking gear (we've never stayed at a hotel in an outdoorsy hiking area that hasn't had something) and were told they don't have enough space in the hotel and we could use the radiators. As our room was so small this made for a very hot, humid and smelly room as everything dripped and dried all over the place (not to mention it can't have been great for their carpets). It turned out they do have a drying room but it's "not really for guests to use". The bathroom felt quite basic - lino floor and cheap fittings which didn't really align with the rest of the room. There is no soundproofing so you can hear pretty much everything in all the other rooms - I knew when someone in the room above went to the toilet in the night for example, or when someone left their dog in their room and it was whining until they came back. There's nowhere to park - we managed to find on-street parking over the bridge each day but it might be harder in the summer. We stayed for 5 nights and no one at any point came and cleaned the room, changed the towels, gave us fresh cups/glasses/teabags or emptied the bins. A few days in we asked for a fresh bathmat and clean cups etc and they did this but literally only what we specifically asked for, nothing else - leaving the bins full and overflowing. On the last night we ran out of toilet paper - again because no one had been in to check at any point and we'd been there, four people using one bathroom for 5 nights.

Staff at the property were very helpful and polite. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. They did get a little warm but that wasn’t to bad after being out in the rain all day. I have booked to stay here again next year & will be popping in for food any time I am in the area. The soup Saturday was amazing!
