We had a wonderful stay at Corte Croce. Giulio, the owner and host, was extremely friendly and helpful. He was always happy to give us advice and explain more about the local area, its history and everyday life, which made our stay even more interesting.
The house is in a very peaceful and private location and is a great choice for anyone who appreciates historic houses with character, a large garden and plenty of space around them. At the same time, it is a very good base for exploring this part of northern Italy. Mantua, Verona, Lake Garda, Parma, Modena and Reggio Emilia are all within reach for day trips.
The area is also excellent for cycling. The countryside is mostly flat, there is relatively little traffic on the local roads, and we found drivers to be very considerate towards cyclists. It is therefore possible to make both short and longer cycling trips directly from the house.
Some members of our group also went fishing on the nearby Po River. Fishing on the Po is a truly unique experience, especially for those interested in larger fish such as catfish. There are also many canals in the surrounding countryside, which offer easier and more accessible fishing and can be suitable for less experienced anglers as well.
Overall, we really enjoyed the combination of a quiet historic house, beautiful countryside, cycling, fishing and the possibility of visiting some of the most interesting towns in northern Italy. Giulio's hospitality made the experience even better. We would happily stay here again.

Wat een prachtige locatie! Deze sfeervolle boerderij ademt historie en charme, en is tot in de puntjes verzorgd — alles is super schoon. De vriendelijke host, die hier zelf gewoond heeft, deelt met plezier de familiegeschiedenis van de boerderij. Het authentieke karakter is behouden gebleven, met liefde voor de oude stijl, maar voorzien van alle moderne gemakken van nu. Je wordt hartelijk ontvangen, krijgt handige tips over de omgeving en er wordt regelmatig gevraagd of alles naar wens is. Rondom de boerderij ligt een schitterend landschap, ideaal om te wandelen en tot rust te komen. Een plek waar historie, gastvrijheid en comfort samenkomen – een bijzondere ervaring en een waardevolle herinnering.

We had a fantastic holiday at Corte Croce, the house is beautiful, every room feels huge with lots of original features and furniture, even the original solid fuel range his parents used to cook on, although there is a modern cooker adjacent. It is the most spacious property we have ever rented and has everything, including a games room with a football table for the kids - and grown ups. Giulio is a wonderful host, he speaks perfect English, and gave us the warmest welcome we could ask for. Nothing is too much for him, he’s at the end of the phone for any query or advice of where to visit. From the welcome pack of food and wine to condiments, olive oil, balsamic, dishwasher tablets, toiletries, all of those bits and bobs you expect to have to buy yourself, were provided. The grounds around the house are very spacious, a huge terrace and garden with mature trees for shade, lawns to relax, or play on, and surrounded by farmland makes this the perfect place to relax in peace and quiet, listen to the birds and the rustle of leaves on the trees.
We found the house the perfect location for exploring the surrounding area. Modena, the home of balsamic vinegar had a fabulous food hall with everything fresh you can imagine available. Fresh porcini mushrooms, local Parmesan, 20 year old balsamic vinegar, prosciutto, we were in food heaven. In one corner of the hall you can sit and sample local food, we highly recommended the taster menu at Monari, who also have a separate counter for balsamic tasting.
Within easy reach are Lake Garda, Verona, the city of love, Bologna, Parma (book a visit to a Parmesan Reggiano dairy) and don’t miss the lesser-known Mantova, a small, but very beautiful town.
A little further, but still less than 2 hours drive is Venice, a must-see venue on anybody’s bucket list. We fell in love with it’s beauty, grandeur and wandered for hours from stunning monuments to fascinating quiet canals and coffee shops in residential districts.
