About this house rental

Nestled in Cortlandt, this lovely house for $191 per night is a great choice for your next break. Newly remodeled 2 bed/1 bath backyard guesthouse with a patio, small porch, and yard. It includes a patio table that gets lots of sun (umbrella included), a small play area for young children, and a full-sized picnic table in the yard that sits under some trees. Two TVs with Prime, HBO max, Disney, and Netflix, as well as games, books, and puzzles for your enjoyment. Close to Peekskill, West Point, Bear Mtn, Harriman, Appalachian Trail, & Hudson & Croton Rivers. The Cottage is a separate dwelling that sits in our backyard in a residential neighborhood that is in a suburb of the greater NYC area. Living on the property enables us to quickly manage issues that may arise and try to make ourselves available for any questions about the area, etc. To allow our guests as much privacy as possible, a privacy wall was added. Please be aware that we have a poochon who likes to let guests know that he is there. Although we keep him on a leash or in a gated area, at times he has gotten out. He's very friendly with kids, and kids typically love him. Also, one of our neighbor's chicks grew into a rooster. We have no control over the animals of our neighbors. To counter the noise he might make while guests are trying to sleep (and to help promote sleep for our guests), each bedroom has a white noise machine or fan that should drown out the majority of any noise. If you are very sensitive to noise, however, please consider bringing earplugs.

Clean, organized, wonderful booklet filled with great recommendations on what to do and see in the area. Felt like home away from home!

The property was clean, excellent condition, and up to date. Had everything we needed for our stay. Including shampoo, soap, plates, snack, and so much more. They thought of all the things someone would need if they forgot anything. It was cute little cottage and was perfect for my families stay!

A lot of nice touches with food, lighting, and overall a cool tiny home to use as a base for exploring the area.

Our stay at the cottage filled the bill for a comfortable and convenient home base for exploring the lower Hudson Valley. The hosts were efficient and responsive. The cottage is compact but well laid out for four people. Little touches like ambient lighting in the main room were nice touches.

The cottage itself is adorable with a lot of attention to detail. The upstairs is a little tricky—spiral staircase is very steep and not for the faint of heart and ceiling is very low (I’m 5’10” and banged my head several times in search of an extra blanket). The property is in very close proximity to owner’s house as well as neighbors’. Outdoor party going on my second night which I was warned about only after my arrival. Even with windows and bedroom door closed it was noisy (music, party fun, motorcycle engines, etc.) even though music kindly stopped around 10 or so. There is also a rooster (I love roosters) who definitely believes early bird gets the worm by 5:30. Not a problem if you know in advance but I didn’t. Lots of thoughtful notes around to help you navigate house rules and find things. Froze my first night because I didn’t know thermostat could be changed. Could use a note there on how to operate. No bedside lamp for reading, just overhead. No place to walk a dog or stretch your legs. Not at all private, but again, a beautiful cottage. VRBO app wasn’t working properly (not the fault of property owners) which made for some miscommunications by text. I think the pix on VRBO are really nice and accurate about the interior, but the exterior isn’t well represented. The location is great because hiking is easily in reach, but again, you can’t walk anywhere. Road is too busy, no sidewalks, etc. Again, as a fan of tiny houses and architecture I thoroughly appreciated the elegant, simple beauty of the cottage itself.
