Definitely one of the best places we stayed in Japan. Super friendly and helpful owner. Super clean and spacious accomodation. I was also glad that we took the extra effort to stay near hidden gem Ainokura with almost no Western tourists rather than in over-tourist spot Shirakawago (which we found annoying during our stopover). Welcome to rural and authentic Japan! It felt a bit like in the movie „Local Hero“: one hostel, one Restaurant, one small grocery store and one bakery - that is Gokayama Base‘s vicinity. :-) We loved it a lot and highly recommend Gokayama Base!

The room was spacious and facilities were new. Staff was friendly.
The aircon is not really functioning, so the room still very cold during the winter night. The surrounding place is not lively, we need to drove at least 15 minutes for our dinner. As the bathroom is only located in first floor, we need to go from 2nd floor, through the main entrance, then to the bathroom, lot walking.
