Twenty4 Hostel

This is the only hostel in Paramaribo. It is basic but does the job. My bed was comfortable, the air con worked and the shower was hot. There is a lounge and dining area downstairs, and bedrooms are on the next two levels. There is a communal fridge, microwave and one stove top element. The WiFi works well. The breakfast is simple but good (toast, a boiled egg, and a triangle cheese with tea or coffee). The area is fairly safe although I wouldn't be going out after dark. There is a ATM (Mastercard only) around the corner by the cathedral.

There should be a free communal water refill station to meet most backpackers expectations of reducing plastic (we won't drink tap water even if local stomachs can handle it). My water bottle was stolen from the fridge so the current system does not work. The hostel could be more social. Evening activities or organising people for the free walking tour (which is excellent!) are just a couple of ideas to get people to interact more.

Stairs! The endless emails from the hostel, that I think must be AI generated, as they never answered my question! Downstairs could do with a/c. No hostel vibe, no tours, but I guess that was because it was low season and only a few guests.

Basic but comfortable in good quiet but walkable location. Super friendly staff (except for the angry guy that yelled at me when I was trying to leave at 5AM for the bus to Albina).

I would rate this a score of 5 in a world of only 8's. My expectations were limited to begin with, as the town is pretty run down and poor overall. But, for 20-some dollars, I had a place that felt safe, and was decent, perfect for my needs of a quick night before my flight.

Cleaner. Updated. Freshened up. Warmer reception. A towel with my sheets. Availability to pay with card on site and not have to walk down to the closest restaurant.
