Location and quiet
Having to push a button every time we wanted a shower and waiting 30 mins for hot water. Also the basement for us was very claustrophobic. Thank goodness for the roof terrace where we brought up our breakfast each morning.

Our stay at SII City Luxury Suites was absolutely amazing! We had a little hiccup when we first arrived, as I hadn’t realised that I had booked one of the semi-basement studio apartments. However, as soon as I contacted the host, he was incredibly helpful and kindly arranged for us to move into one of the apartments, which was actually the type of apartment I initially thought I booked. We really appreciated how accommodating and helpful he was.
Therefore my recommendation when booking would be to pay close attention to the apartment descriptions, as the different types of accommodation aren’t immediately obvious from the photos alone.
Other than that initial mix-up, we couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The apartment was beautiful (really modern) clean, spacious and extremely comfortable, with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, bathroom or living space. The balcony was absolutely fantastic, really spacious and such a lovely place to relax after being at the beach and on the move all day. Air con was 10/10 and the bedroom featured a ceiling fan which was one of my favourite features.
The location was also great, around a 15-minute walk from Rethymno Old Town and the town centre, with plenty of lovely restaurants, shops and bars nearby. Having a car would be a bonus if you’re planning to explore more of Crete, particularly as some of the roads can be quite steep and winding. As I'm more or less blending in with the locals since I've been going to Rethymno for the last 12 years I recommend Fraoules a lovely spot for lunch but also great music and cocktails in the evening and very popular with the locals. Love the little Italian spot on the corner as you enter the Old Town. If you have a car definitely drive up to Lake Kournas!
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend SII City Luxury Suites.

Generous size balcony, living and bedroom.
Laundry machine and iron.
Proximity to super market and cafes.
View from balcony and rooftop.
Small shower and toilet spaces.
Limited cleaning supplies, laundry tablet and no extra kitchen trash bags.
Very small kitchen countertop space.
Communication with property management was sporadic. Often delayed responses.
Finally, parking.

The accommodation itself is modern and comfortable, with excellent facilities. The location is not brilliant - it isn’t that far from town, but it is a bit of an uphill hike. I hadn’t realised that it is a semi-basement, so it did have a slight feeling of being in a dungeon. I was there for three nights, and it would have been nice if somebody had cleaned the room, emptied the bin etc.
